Just like that house you bought for $150,000, but it's really worth $80,000.

Have fun making those inflated payments!

    Looking cool....

    What else is there?

In the past year I have ridden 4 bikes my 1982 V45 my 1986 VFR750F, my fathers 98 Valkyrie and his bossed 2007 ultra electra glide classic ect ect.. harley. The harley I believe had a 96 in^3 engine with EFI and a full touring setup. Cost about 30k with options, First let me say it did start right up but it instantly started vibrating like an SOB I actually asked if something was wrong with it. Acceleration was amazing from 1500 rpm to 3000 rpm but then all it did was vibrate extra my 750 magna would wax it easy. Also it had no more low end than the valkyrie with none of the top end power. Without the vibration I think it would have been comfortable but I could not get past the shaking. All I can say is for 30k I was not satisfied. I would rather take the magna on a long trip or defiantly the valk long before I would ride this thing.

Sorry Bubba, my hearts just not in it.

I feel like its debate night , the topic is the Civil War, and I drew defend the South.

I actually owned a couple of HD's waaayy back in the late 80's-early 90's.

Owned other brands at the same time, just wanted to see what the excitement was about. The HD"S were just OK, except they were so slow that I had to spend a bunch of time and money just to make them fast enough to get out of their own way.

They held up OK, no major problems, but I got tired of them and sold them.

I did get my money back out of them, pretty much.

Then in the late 90's everybody in the YEW Ess oF A decided to buy one.

Now theyre everywhere, the twidget next door to me and his little shrew WASP wife ride one........if you knew these two that alone would keep you from owning one.

Don't get me started about the clown down the street and his

now we're hearing your weiner won't work if you ride one..........GAAAAAAA

Its OK bear, you don't have to join in the reindeer games.

The seeds have been planted, the fertilizer is down...let the thread grow at its own rate.

That's pretty good about debate night and drawing "defend the South" LOL!

I feel like your avatar when people start bragging how great their Harely's are.

Let me put my flame proof coat on...

HD is building better quality bikes. All their bikes are FI, they even offer ABS on some of the touring bikes. Maintainance is minimal and the work is simple (no chain to adjust, hydrolic lifters mean no valve adjustment).

HD will keep their value better than anything else on two wheels.

HD sells a lifestyle and brotherhood. How many HD riders have you seen wearing the H.O.G. 'colors'? Every new HD buyer is given a membership to the local Harley Owners Group chapter.

I love my VFR and would pick it over any HD for a long ride on a twisty road. But, I sure have been looking at a Nightster as a second bike.

Not a fan of Harleys as they do not match up.
    but
Harleys are easier to work on than my 2005 vfr.

also HOG, i wish there was another riding organization as organized as hog that organized demo's and group rides and events.

around here there is nothing, if honda came out with something 1/10 of hog i would be there. I enjoy riding with others and do wish there was a large club around here.
Hate to say it bust most sport bike clubs seem to be squidy.

FWIW did you know that Honda actually studied the vibs a HD gives off so they could mimic it for the shadow line. I was pretty surprised they went to so much effort to clone the brand. and if you ever come across an 1800 at a stop light, watch it's front wheel.

Good point about HOG sponsered events vs. Honda sponsered events.

I guess that the slick50 thread died. Good. This one is going to be better but in a different way. For the record: I have sat on a Harley. That's it. I used to fix all of the Jap bikes in the shop I worked at, and the owner always took the Harleys. Never have I even started one.

Is this confirmed information? I owned a Shadow ACE a while back that was specifically targeted by Harley in a lawsuit for trying to copy the Harley sound. It has a single pin crank just like the harley motors and it did in fact sound just like a Harley in most cases. Many times the little 750 was mistaken for a Harley.

ROJ what a great picture!!! I don't mind the machine so much, it's just the supposed lifestyle it represents. We have Bike Blues and BarBQ every year it's like Halloween when all of the high paid corporate types with their $30K+ customs come out of the wood work. The other 51 weeks of the year they are nowhere to be found and need I comment on their riding ability? But to each his own, it's like coffee, some like cream and sugar some don't.

I was just talking to a buddy here at work that owns a Harley and he pointed out something pretty funny. Harley was founded in 1903, but they released their 50th anniversary edition bike in 1954. Whoops, guess they forgot to carry the 1 somewhere...:whoops:

OK what's the deal here? Waaay too much Harley promotion going on here.

Nevermind, it's a double negative: Harley Riders Soft + Bad Credit = pretty good stereotype  Oh wait I forgot, they're all lawyers and doctors, hahaha!

The vibration and sound is what makes a HD...an HD. All that is a large part of the HD marketing. Even some Japanese cruiser bikes try to copy the HD sound. Honda was the first sued by HD for copying the exhaust sound. Fortunely HD lost. I think it was the Honda Shadow Aero. with that said, I rented a HD 1200L sportser and it handles like a PIG! I don't like the vibration either, but I do like the sound.

Yes the 1200L sportster is a pig!!!
Rode the F-inlaw's from the dealership home for him and was completely underwhelmed by it!
Power?...NONE!!! My lawn tractor has a 21hp Briggs&Stratton twin and i'm pretty sure it makes more hp per cu.in.

Cornering clearance?....NONE!!! Scraped those big chrome pipes in the first turn-pike!!!

If I'm gonna ride something that can't accelerate or corner,I'll cruise in my Taurus and at least then I'll have a stereo to keep me entertained!
