How long have they lasted for you? One bulb blown will constitute a failure.

Best bet IMO is to carry spares. There are also shims available for the VFRs ect that use the "special" aka: overpriced, bulbs from Honda with the larger mating cams.

Anyone ever done a study on how long valvestem caps last?

Dam! Did you ride your bike underwater? I just replaced the bulbs in my 1998 after almost 10 years of use.

Have had '99 since '05 without blowing a bulb, think they are the original as it only had 1900miles when I bought it.

Dodgy RRs have been known to blow or shorten bulb lifespans.

Yeah, something is wrong there. Both the frequency and the price, having owned a BMW previously. Unless he is replacing the housing, not the bulb.
