So you're not hearing the Fuel Pump prime at switch On?
Is your Fi Light on? Or does it switch off normally after the Fuel Prime interval?

First and easiest thing to check is the state of Main Fuse B 30amp. Check for overheated, stressed or burnt wiring for the fuse, check the fuse holder and fuse legs for signs of burning or overheating.

Also check the Fuel Pump connector is making good contact and the connections are clean with no signs of corrosion or oxidization.

Otherwise using the wiring diagram measure voltages around the Engine Stop Relay and Fuel Cut Relays, this should establish any power issues.

Just for info, and to be fair about Honda's excellent ECM reliability. This ECM was blown by the previous owner's (not n3n3) self-induced incorrect FCR bypassing, in an attempt to run the Fuel Pump.

Hi I have a similar problem. I couldn't hear the fuel pump prime with the ignition on, the FI light came on as usual and the bike turns over. I removed the fuel pump; I don't get 12V from the connector, my fuses look ok but will check again. I briefly connected a 12v battery to the pump terminals but nothing happened other than wires getting hot. Where is the relay located please? My bike is a 1998 model. Thanks

If the wires got hot and the pump did not run when you did a direct 12V connection to the pump, it sounds most likely the pump has seized.

I don't know about the VFR, but my CB-1 has a resistance spec for the fuel pump. Don't ask how I know.

Hi, I have plugged in the new pump and it's working fine. Two questions: 1my open ended u shaped small hose on a 0.5cm diameter pipe by the filter has snapped off with age, how important is it? I attach a photo before it snapped. Does the filter just snap on to the new pump as it doesn't feel very tight? Thanks

As I understand it, the U-shaped tube you are referring to is the fuel return line from the fuel pressure regulator. This directs fuel back at the fuel pump and I believe assists with keeping the pump cool when the fuel level is low.

Thanks again. I got the hose and have put it all back together. However, although the bike primes fine and turns over it still doesn't start. Fuses look ok. Also my throttle on the handlebar seems stuck and won't rotate. Any ideas please?

Sticking throttle is a safety issue!

Sounds like you need to lift the tank, remove the air box and find what is making the throttle bind.

Thanks, did all that and lots of evidence of mice. Throttle bodies are stuck firm so I have sprayed plusgas and am hoping for the best.

Mice in the air box? Nasty critters.

Sorry to hear about that, I hope it cleans up well and you are sucessful in your effort to revive your VFR.

I've got the bike running now, just awaiting a new air filter. My FI light comes sometimes and the bike splutters a bit. Is this likely due to me not fitting the air filter and cover or something else? Thanks
