I sure hope the machining if it is that, is not some fault of the stuff that ol tink is selling. Then again nobody really knows shit about what is going on and to my knowledge just sitting on the bike is not all that dangerous unless one has run out of Preparation H.

Quick note to self: add VFR 1200 to list of things to avoid in polite conversation,

Half a league, half a league,
      Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
      Rode the twelve hundred.
    'Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns' he said:
    Into the valley of Death
      Rode the twelve hundred.

    'Forward, the Light Brigade!'
    Was there a man dismay'd?
    Not tho' the soldiers knew
      Some one had blunder'd:
    Their's not to make reply,
    Their's not to reason why,
Their's but to do and die:
    Into the valley of Death
      Rode the twelve hundred.

    Cannon to right of them,
    Cannon to left of them,
    Cannon in front of them
      Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
    Boldly they rode and well,
    Into the jaws of Death,
    Into the mouth of Hell
      Rode the twelve hundred.

    Flash'd all their sabres bare,
Flash'd as they turned in air
    Sabring the gunners there,
    Charging an army while
      All the world wonder'd:
    Plunged in the battery-smoke
    Right thro' the line they broke;
    Cossack and Russian
    Reel'd from the sabre-stroke
    Shatter'd and sunder'd.
Then they rode back, but not
    Not the twelve hundred.

    Cannon to right of them,
    Cannon to left of them,
    Cannon behind them
      Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
    While horse and hero fell,
They that had fought so well
Came thro' the jaws of Death,
Back from the mouth of Hell,
All that was left of them,
      Left of twelve hundred.

    When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
      All the world wonder'd.
    Honour the charge they made!
    Honour the Light Brigade,
      Noble twelve hundred!

Not sure I see a connection (typical), but it was a good read! Haven't read that in Lord knows how many years.

Probably the last time you read it, it was 400. I suppose we could blame it on inflation. ;)

No that would have been after a spell of deflation, originally it was 600. The heavy brigade (presumably referring to the 1200) had an altogether more successful encounter and no poem.

Any engine with the problm will be swapped for a new one. Engines without the problem will just have fresh oil & filter

What IS the "problem"? Swarf is a symptom not the cause. How would one know if their engine hasn't developed the "problem" yet. More information would be needed before I would be satisified.

Swarf is actually the cause. Something about the cleaning process after machining the cases left some debris in there. My guess is they discovered the problem early in production, corrected it and are recalling the units built beforehand. Europe and UK got the VFR a couple months before North America so they would have got much earlier production models. Reports so far are saying that US and Canada models are not affected.

This is a production problem, not a design flaw. People who had the "problem" reported engine noises and lost performance before their first service. I've heard no reports of any actual engine seizures... that would be a worst-case scenario.

Good thing for me I said that as a possibility back in post #99. What's your source for this intel?

Is that like a Martha Stewart good thing or a general good thing or a specific good thing? Could we say the same for anti-swarf?

    OK...

I'll make this quick & too the point. I want to ride someone's VFR1200. Yes, you read that correctly. Since no Honda dealer in the CPRofNJ allows test rides, I need to ride one of yours. The only way I am going to be convinced that this bike is worth the asking cost is to ride one. I think that's a fair request. If anyone is actually willing to let me ride their brand spanking new VFR1200, PM me & we'll make it happen. You get to ride a pristine 5th Gen in the deal.

Since I already know what the answer to my request is, I wash my hands of this thread & promise to not post in the 7th Gen forum any longer. That's a sincere promise, unless someone actually lets me ride their new VFR1200, I will not post another word in the 7th Gen section.

The DN-01, the Phantom, the 1300 Custom series, etc. What happened to you Honda? You were always better than this. Now the Germans & Italian are building better sportbikes & the HD juggernaut can't be stopped. Sad, so sad.

    KC-10 FE out...
