Hi guys, new here from South Africa

Been away from Vfrs for a few years but back in the fold...possibly

Hoping you guys can help, I have been searching the forums but cannot find an answer...

I have just bought a 1986 750 vfr from a mate of mine, it's going to need a full rebuild as it looks as if it was at some stage dropped(nothing bad, I will post photos as I am able.

Everything seems to be there, even original exhausts with black chrome? none of the bolts look to be even touched, all rubbers intact...etc

    Just neglected
Low milage as it has only 23000km

Everything looks legit, but I am thinking the frame is a low(early year) number?
    rc241000072

And the engine confuses me (the bike is likely from Japan)

I read one of the members (artee?) had an early 86 engine like this but I searched his posts but didn't find much

F2 model in better than average condition.

its a tedious job but you really need to fix the badly bent radiator fins (front and back) or risk overheating and engine damage.

remove radiator and screen, use small knife blade or exacto point to get in and reshape fins. slow work, but u need to do it, same with oil cooler fins if theyre also mutilated.

the fins on the back get bent during most sparkplug changes, not much room.

Those front teardrop indicators, the fluid reservoirs on the bars and the warning label under the seat, definitely look like a Japanese domestic market model to me. If so, I believe you should have a red warning light in the speedo/dash for excessive speed. Might also have a 180km/hr limiter built in.

    chrome_PHKghcleN1.png Appreciate all the advice.
Just took a look and the speedo is rated to 180km, but no warning light, might have been removed? If i am reading things correctly mine is an F2? (Dark exhausts?)
Are the F2's only 1987 or did thay come out in 86 as well, i ask as my registration papers have the first year of registration as '86.
I'm in South Africa, i just spoke to HondaSA, and some of the older heads there said we had a few official and some japanese imports enter our market at that time.

I might be wrong about the warning light then; I know earlier Japanese market bikes like the VF750 and VF400 had a warning light (at an annoying 90km/hr IIRC). The 180 km/hr speedo is a confirmation about the JDM status, as is the little amber section on the high beam indicator. Unless someone has been creative before, the bike will have a 180km/hr speed limiter; probably not a a big deal but should be easily defeatable if you wanted to. I had that on my 97 VTR1000F and it was as straighforward as unscrewing a wire from the back of the speedo; I only tested that on a racetrack and private road obviously...
