If (god forbid) I lived in the midwest or Texas again I wouldnt own a bike. But if I did, it would be a ZX14 or Busa - hard accelaration and top speed would take the place of canyon carving, no thanks. I think most of those that say the VFR is underpowered live in flat, boring places.

we have some good places in SD county for a top speed run...one is great just coming down into the desert from the mtns....no good places for chippers to hide really, and a big hill at the end of it....good for scrubbing speed. As long as I have a buffer (a car in front of me to intercept the radar) I giv'er hell!

the real question is how hard is the VFR working engine-wise cruising along at 80-90MPH on the slab for road trips?

that's my main gripe with my current bike, it's too 'busy' for my liking at my typical no traffic highway speeds if i'm trying to get somewhere.

i would say vfr is the opposite. IMO 6th gear is to tall you could Cruz along in 5th at that speed nicely and not be too buzzy

    It windy up there

Well, I thought I was fast, some of you are out of control.....
My top speed on my 06 vfr was 151 and then I got a Zumo 550 and actual speeds vary.
110 is about 100, 131 was 119, at those speeds I get abit uncomfortable doing coparisions during a rocket launch. ;):scared::scared:

    elf... lmfao!!!!!

fryeG7 - If you think it's too busy on the hiway then get a smaller rear sprocket installed. It'll drop about 1000rpm in top gear. Do NOT change the front sprocket! That increases the stress load on the crank and transmission and causes early wear and repair. I've done this on a few bikes and it works great. My Ducati ST3 cruised at 4krpm at 70mph in stock configuration. That's about the ONLY thing I liked about her. I sold her for my VTR and never looked back.

I've had my '06 up to 150 with the hard cases on. She ain't smooth at that speed like my FZ-1.

If you want to give your bike a boost do what I do now and then - put an entire bottle of STP octane boost in a single full tank of premium gas. Watch that fucker come to life! Mine wheelied so hard when the quads kicked in from a rolling start that I had to back off or it would have tipped over! Usually it just gently lifts the front tire a few inches.

My only mods so far, if you want to call them that, are a K&N air filter and EBC brake pads. I'll be installing Power Commander O2 Sensor Eliminators in it next week to smooth it out a bit, but if you are not going aftermarket with exhaust mods then no need for the actual PCIII unit.

    Druggrepp answered MY question

First of all, from everything I am seeing the VFR is a unique motorcycle. I have two bikes now and am seriously thinking of adding a VFR to my garage. Not knowing very much about the bike I did a search online for how fast the bike is, and ended up here. I did the search because I wanted to know more about the bike and I plan to use it 110 miles a day. I tend to do appr. 85 mph and sometimes a bit faster to pass cars. Seems like the VFR will be more than adequate.

Hey buddy I know what you mean. I picked up a 6th Gen VFR and I do like the bike, I just love the 5th Gen VFRs better. The 6th Gen VFR has a better stock suspension and is fun to ride but not blazing fast. If you want speed and power from a sport tourer type bike then check a busa - I plan to. Keep your 5th Gen VFR. I have an 03 R1 for spirited rides and use my 5th Gen VFR as a daily ride and the 6th Gen VFR is the bike I do two up riding and touring/trips. just my humble opinion.

You can always give Toro1 a call and bolt on one of his super chargers. Problem solved.
