    called to the mat

Under wraps since mid-November, I repeatedly glanced at the covers protecting the sleek lines of the VFR. The Pennsylvania temperatures have left my riding desires to full hibernation until this past Sunday. Home from church, out of the truck, we were standing in the driveway, the wind blowing slightly, snow covering the lawns and our two children were going to work. Home from college the 19 year old comments about the cold. Unsympathetically discounting all concerns for the bitter cold I reply, “Toughen-up kids, it’s not that cold… you’re only outside for 7 hours”. Instantaneously the 17 year old asks if I would donate blood today “hey great idea!” Great Dad, stop down to work around noon we have a blood drive today bring the bike Dad! They both smiled. I was called to the mat. The high for the day was 19 degrees; well the VFR performs quite differently at 19, during the ride it dropped to 17 on the north side of the mountain. The Conti-Attacks felt as if they never warmed-up but 10winter miles were logged on a chilly Sunday. No you’re never too old to ride. It still comes out red by the way.

    Hi guys (and Gal ;))
    Almost 58 here...
Started riding a year ago after a 30 year 'hiatus'
Shoulda kept my mouth shut... but happened to mention to wife how nice it is ridin' in the twisties and mountains near home... she got keen, bought her own bike...
    I've created a monster.. lol
(but now, whatever I want for my bike is cool with her... hehe)
    Cheers

48 and just started riding 2 years ago. 1st year (also newly single....lol) started with a 1988 Suzuki Katana 600. Went out to visit my sister in San Fran and got to try her 3 bikes, a Harley Sportster, Kawasaki Meanstreak and Suzuki M109. After riding all her bikes I realized that I enjoyed being able to lean in a curve. Found a 2005 VFR last year and haven't looked back. Age has no bearing on what one enjoys!!

I'll be 41 next month. That may not be old compared to some others, but I sure as hell feel old. Maybe riding makes you feel young..............................But in the end I still look old................ Some woman called me "sir" this weekend.

I LOVE this Forum. Do any of you guys operate on any other Forums? So many of them are, well, let's just say much less civilized than here. You folks have The Best Forum I have ever visited (any hobby or interest...not just bikes).

Hey, so this is perhaps slightly off-topic.......!
I am 47, is that old?
I just joined this forum because I am thinking about buying one of these VFRs......
Also, I am a brand new rider; just took a class and got my license last September 2009. I had never really even ridden a motorcycle before that.
Then I bought a Ninja 500 in the same month and put about 1500 miles on it before winter up here in Minnesota.
So these VFRs are pretty good bikes huh?
Should I "trade up" to one? That is the question I have been asking myself...!

I got my first bike (not counting the 80cc when I was 16) at age 47, my first VFR at 49, and my second one at age 60. In between I rode a WeeStrom, an FZ1 and a Bandit 1250. And a CBR600 track bike.

Virgo - you're only old when you give up playing with toys. Buddy's dad is 70 and still riding his 400 Bandit.

Just turned 60. My hands tend to fall asleep, but I've had that problem forever. My butt gets numb after a while. My real problem with the vfr is that more than two cylinders in a motorcycle is masturbation. And that mine has definitely seen better days, so needs some attention.

I think you probably have to reach a certain age before you can fully appreciate the Vifer. Call it the thinking man's (or woman's) bike. Sadly my wife passed away last year at age 63 but one of here favorite things to do was go for a ride on my shiny red VFR.

    Virgo,

This VFR is my first bike in this class and I am extremely impressed with it! I mean, holy cow this is a fun bike to ride!! Regardless what you decide you want to do, whether it be this spring or in another year or so, you will always be able to find a nice VFR. Heck, I could not believe that I could pick up a left over brand new 07 for a bargain!!!

Now if winter would just blow on out of here!
