I have a dumb question. How do I test / tell if my water pump is on it way out? First, it is not leaking, but I noticed my temps are really warm. I went on long ride today. Before I put the bike up, I put a Fluke laser thermometer at the engine, and the cylinder walls measured 220-225 degrees. Rad measured 180-ish Is that cause for concern? I've checked my coolant level and even replaced all hoses & flushed the system out a few months back. I'd like to rule out my water pump, so I'd appreciate any pointers you all can provide. Thanks in advance!

I have seen water pumps on VF/VFRs that the vanes have rusted away from sitting with water in the them. Discovered when the flushed cooling system just didn't seem to be "working".

You could always pull one of the hoses and crank it over to confirm it's pushing fluid.

I highly doubt that is your problem, if you even have a problem. The bike would get hot, fast. And leaking is really about how water pumps go "out". They don't really stop "pumping" (pushing).

That rad reading seems about right(?). Where is your temp gauge sitting thru this?

Yeah, I may have to try taking off a hose and watching it.
My temp gauge is reading just shy of halfway between Cold and Hot.

You're fine. Make sure your fan is operational and the thermoswitch will turn it on and ride the piss out of it.
