    When I bought my VF500F, a number of folks here warned me about the potential pitfalls of owning an early gen VF. Well, it finally happened!. I went out to the garage to prep for an early morning ride and found that THERE IS A CRACK IN THE SEAT COVER! I knew that some kind of problem would surface sooner or later, but I didn't think it would be of this magnitude. I guess I'll just have to deal with it.

    Bravo!!:biggrin::biggrin:

    My God, they were right. The material of the seat was poorly engineered but Honda was reluctant to recall all the 1st gens and 25 years later, they will surely have a catastrophic failure. Those same "experts" will tell you to try to find 2nd Gen seat material, apparently Honda finally worked out the bugs on that seat.:wink::wink:

    LMAO Rollin.

    I'm not sure a crack of that size can be fixed.

    I had that problem with my 500 too. I recovered the seat and sold that bitch before having any more problems.

    Well at least you're ok. Sorry to hear about your seat exploding.

    San Andreas fault is just a crack in the ground, for now.

    The back half of your bike could fall into the ocean.

    You should take a grainy, low-res photo and e-mail it to American Honda demanding a full refund on the original MSRP for that thing. Surely they would have to comply to avoid the storm of bad publicity! :cool:

    The VF500 has probably the soothest-running engine in the world of motorcycles before it drops valves, of course !

    I separated the edges of the crack, there was a kind of valve there, sorta looked like a big brown eye.
