And this is awesome, I just saw this when I was storing the seat in my attic.

Check out where the shock adjusting tool is...

Try the other tensioner. It will be worth the time to know.

I think I kinda see what you're talking about, but I would expect more on a failing rod bearing I think.

Engines can / do create some particulates, and it doesn't have to be rod / crank bearing material.

Pulled the oil pan......I found the smoking gun....... not sure what bearing went south but I am guessing one of the rods.

Nothing is ever easy.....but that is the fun of it :gulp:

    Tear down coming next!

Should be easy to work on, yes? Sorry that you have to pull it apart.

the crap on the left looks like clutchplate cork chunks or the residue left after a squirrel eats an acorn. id expect more metal bits if a rod bearing were on the way out. check the clutch basket for any irregularities.

Gotta love bikes with real oil pans. Oil pans with oring grooves too.

Well... it couldn't go any other way, could it?

Yeah, may as well pull the clutch cover, it is actually easier to do this with the engine in the frame.

It looks pretty straight forward and also very similar to the VF500F.

It will be fun, and I have never seen anyone rebuild one of these 250's, so maybe my "SURE TO HAPPEN" mistakes will help someone later!

And the stator cover to get the flywheel loose while it's in the frame too, where you can jam/hold the crank gears on the right side and wrestle as needed.

Shit, I might even crack the head bolts too.

With the amount of cleaning that is going to be required, you won't get it completely clean without disassembling the engine and being meticulous about cleaning all the places that oil has gone. Sorry to see this, JM. Hope you didn't pay a lot for it. ETA - forgot about the first post saying you paid $600 for it.

NCB...its all good. Complete strip down. Glad it does not have an oil cooler!

I really buy this junk because it takes my mind off work. The journey is the fun part.

I will probably lose my ass on this bike.

My 500 is on the bench now . cams out, followers next. If it turns out to be a bearing i'll be curious if you find a source.
My head gasket failure turned the oil to chocolate milk. anxious to see what bearings look like.

It is a whole lot easier to pull this engine than a VF500! It took like 45 minutes and it was out.

Unbolt the 2 front mounts and the whole front of the engine drops to the ground. It pivots on the rear mount bolt Easy Peasy.

I can't get over that this engine looks like someone took a Samurai sword and cut a VF500 engine in half!
