Well I picked up an 04 Vfr800 a couple of weeks ago from another state and it is finally here. I was able to start her up last night and she seems to run great. The only modifications that I have been able to notice is heli bars and a hookup which seems to be for a battery tender. The bike needs some cosmetic work because the previous owner laid her down on the left side but it seems to be only 2 fairings that need some work.

First things first: Will take care of all maintenance needs such as new spark plugs, air filter and fluids changed.

I already have a list of things that I would like to change:
    Handlebar grips and bar ends
    Double bubble screen
    Brake and clutch lever
Smoked turn signals for the front
I have a nice set of oem r1 exhausts to mount
    Flapper and pair removal
    Passenger grab bar removal
Painting the wheels white or black
Big Honda wing for the fairings

Well and for those of you that have made it this far, here is how she looks.

Nice. Sounds like you have similar taste to myself. I would love to either put a large wing on the sides (CBR-esque), or do a white/silver/black repsol theme from Nice Cycle, etc. Let me know what you decide to do to the tail light and turn signals. I have seen clear lenses, but they're too pricey. I have considered smoking the lenses, but wasn't sure how well it would turn out.

Hey Thanks. For the front I will end up buying the ones on ebay and for the rear I might try the smoked film because its easily reversible. I would love to get the red and clear tail light of the newer ones but they definately are pricey.

I made some progress today with the bike. Since Im waiting for the paperwork to be finalized, I decided to fix the cosmetic damage on the bike. Took some time to weld up the plastic fairings, reinforce them and sand them down. Tomorrow will be bondo and primer and hopefully painting them on wednesday.

Hey Dean, nice bike. Doesn't look too bad all in all. judging from your bike pics on your intro thread, I doubt you need it, but I'm in the Sac area so if you ever need any help. let me know. I convinced a co worker to buy a gen 5 , yellow VFR. In the process of getting it road worthy. When you're up and running, maybe we can all go for a shake down ride.

yeah, hit me up/PM me any time for info or what ever. My buddy hasn't joined the forum. we haven't even gotten out for a ride yet and he's had his bike for over 6 months. Work and family is slowing the play time progress. Happy tinkering!

Nice project. Did you check for any outstanding recalls? I called the dealer, gave them the vin number and was told the wiring harness recall had not been taken care of.

So I finally got around to completing the bondo, primer and paint on the bike. I also got to changing the oil which was in really bad condition. Assembly will be tomorrow along with completing registration and then I get to take her out for her first ride. Bike will still need some wet sanding and buffing to get rid of the orange peel but that will be in a few weeks.

Very cool project and great things to do list. Where did you buy paint or any special kind? I may need to paint hardbags if i find used ones.

I found a local paint shop that had Hondas codes in their system and they were able to mix up the paint for me into an aerosol can. Then I used their clearcoat system which is a two part aerosol can(you push a metal button on bottom that releases the activator) and the clear came out super glossy. Its the best you can get from an at home job if you dont have a professional paint gun.

Where is the local shop you got the paint from? This sounds interesting and would like to check it out for some future projects.

Check out www.davidsilverspares.com for Honda OEM hard side cases. You'll probably find the NOS they carry the same if not cheaper than a used set.

I love when members buy scuffed VFRs and fix them up.
One thing - I did not like the double-bubble. I am 5'9" and it was worse than stock for me. VMMV.
