hey all- got a ‘95 vfr with 58k on the clock. I’ve owned it for seven years and it’s ran great. Last year I noticed her lacking engine braking on deceleration... and when sitting at idle and wicking the throttle a bit seems to take a second or two to return to idle. I know it’s not going to have massive engine braking like a big twin, but seems it should have more than it does currently. I swear remember it having a bit more years ago... I bought it with 38k on it, and haven’t touched the valves yet since it’s ran great since I’ve owned it. Anyone else experience this? Could it be on the intake side of things(Carbs, boots?) or valve adjustment? From what I’ve read these things go a long ways without fiddling with valve adjustments... any thoughts? Thanks.
Sounds like it's time to give the carbs some love (and probably some other items too). If it's not returning to idle after a rev, it's doing the same thing on decel on the road. Time for a carb clean/rebuild and probably a full tune up.
bad carb synch could be your problem, with one or two carbs not fully closing when the throttle is released. otherwise, low cylinder compression.
