Google has done some recent changes in "map". drilling down, some the roads on the Fort Ord site are viewable. Some are closed off during races and after the races. This was and perhaps still is a function of the California Highway Patrol. As is shown the racetrack is a small part of the entire area. CHP is quite visable at the track so you might ask about where you will exit. Most of the CHP guys big smiles on their faces and are motorcycle enthusiasts who are brought in from as far away as the Los Angeles area. Easily spotted too because their patrol vehicles resemble porcupines.. Sort of a don't ask deal..

Yes, it was cool that I was able to "walk" the entire race track and through the paddocks, etc.. using Street View in Google Map (or maybe it was Google Earth). I used it to choose the grandstands at turn 11 because it seemed to have more view of the track than turn 4.

For sheer "I'm glad it ain't me" , going up to and then down the corkscrew is a winner. That is with the exception of the harleydoods who still are wearing "no fear" underwear.

You can do the same at Sears Point (Infineon Raceway) and Thunderhill. I imagine google is going to do this at lots of tracks for the 'cool' factor.

At the track in the parking areas my guess is that staffing is part of the deal. My meaning about stuff on the bike was at his motel/hotel.. Might even pay to pack a bike cover. There are dudes everywhere looking for farkles.

At least all my hard cases come off the bike so they can be in my room and the GPS is removable. Also this week I will be installing an alarm system (I already have it). Hopefully it will keep paws off my bike.

Whoo-hoo!! Just arrived at my hotel, ready for the start of a fantastic weekend. Total distance travelled 1698km ranging from 450km to 700km per day :)
Found lots of beatiful twisty roads along the way, especially in California. Washington was too cool and damp to enjoy. Oregon.... what's up with the cold, damp enless fog and relentless wind???
After hugging the coastline in Washington and Oregon, I swung inland for better weather and more enjoyable rides. I think maybe the coast drive is better suited in an enclosed vehicle. Beautiful scenes but all I wanted to do was get out of there.
So, anyone else here to see the races at Laguna Seca this weekend?

Just noticed this thread. Hope you really enjoy yourself down there. I can't say enough about how well I hax always been treated when I have been down there. Except maybe one CHIPS last time down. He gave me a personally signed "Welcome to California" flier that required me to reply to.

    Badbilly, .......Leave me alone!

I still want to make it over to the island for a week or so, so might look you up. Have other friends over in the capitol city area.

The Oregon weather is controlled by a small but powerful group called The CAVE People. ( Citizens against virtually everything)

I think Rea has a good chance there, smaller more technical track where the Kawi and Ape can't beat up on the Honda with more power.

I know the Tori is already there. I saw his camper on facebook. He is most likely camping in the Archery campground. That's where we were last year. He will post up on the hill above turn 2 on raceday and if I know him, he will probably have Valentino Rossi swag marking his spot even though the event is WSBK...

Any Coastal routes on the West Coast from the Canadian Border to as far South as SoCal should be planned around the weather. There is nothing that impedes fronts coming in off the Pacific unless ya include Hawaii and points West. Best Weather IMO, NOAA.. Guess where most of the other "weather " mavens get their info?

Most of the "Meteorologists" on the TEEVEE ain't. I do like to watch the ones with great racks.

Not to be taken as some universal discovery. I did a round tripper on 7/3 of 400 miles on 101 and the weather was great. In another scenario, riding down to Laguna Seca one year from Seattle on I5 it rained so hard even the dudes from Canada were pulling in.
