Ol Yeller... Poor guy. Sitting there watching more stuff come home to teach it a lesson. That'll learn it.

That's just the tank off the first Interceptor I ever bought, which is in my garage awaiting it's turn on the lift table. It will need more work than this one.

Great find Bazza looks great. I am sure you are probably already aware of Joe Nelson’s web site V4 dreams, but if not it is a fantastic resource for all VFR owners but especially the early models, heaps of maintenance tips and tricks on there as well as some parts for sale. http://v4dreams.com/index.html

Thanks, Phil. And yes, Joe has been very helpful and his website is amazing. I've bought parts from him as well. He's a great guy!

    Happy Saturday!

Got started on the VF750 this morning.

As I took off the air filter and noticed how clean everything was plus the fact that the petcock on the removed fuel tank had been on OFF, I started wondering if I should hook up the bottle and see if she'll start. So that's what I did.

She runs but not that great. Seems like the carb clean/rebuild is still in order.

I wouldn't think running some carb cleaner/Seafoam through it would do anything. What do you guys think.. This is with no choke on.....

It should run better with the air filter on/box installed

Thanks - I know that's the gold standard. Just wondering if there are other options to save the work. Can't hurt to ask, eh?

You should see the gunk in the brake M/C...yuk! So I still have that and the clutch work to do.

I guess so far so good though.....could have been worse! :)

Thanks - you wouldn't have a part number for that, would you? I looked at a schematic and just can't seem to find it. Thanks!

Thanks - I thought about that and decided I'll wait and see how they look first. I replaced them in the Blue bike but to be honest could have re-used the ones that were in it.

Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner got me back from California on a trip I took out there. Did a rapid clean on a Mikuni downdraft carb on a Vision and it ran fine until I got to Monterey. There was an intersection with a Chevron station on all 4 corners. Kept a strong mixture in the tank for the rest of the trip. Cleaned up that mess and on the way back it continued to dissolve things so it would plug up and dissolve that and so on. Once back I took the top of the carb off and there was a straw of varnish floating in the one float chamber. Swear by that stuff ever since. Not going to work on dirt, but any varnish it will dissolve. Can't say what it would do with the white corrosion that has become so prevalent, but I bet it wouldn't touch it. Be worth a try just to see.

Thanks! No wonder.....I was looking at the radiator diagram....lol....

I'll take a look tomorrow at the bike and see what's involved. I'm sure it's a good idea and they are in stock so why not?

Thanks also for the "soak" link. I've seen that mentioned before but haven't tried it.

    Cheers! :)

Yes that's some good stuff! I learned about and started using it when I first got into air cooled Porsche 911's. Was told to use it frequently and I also remember trying to use their gas every chance I got.

I used the Seaform product today - both the carb spray and the additive. We'll see if it makes any difference tomorrow when I resume work on her. Today was a good day - good start to the project!

I'm THRILLED this bike is in such good condition.

Check out the side fairings I removed today. No broken off tabs!

Be careful removing the coolant tubes from the cylinder heads.. they are thin walled so they bend easy if you pry on them.. best to wiggle out and pry as gently as possible.

They usually weep right after the carbs get reinstalled. I know because my 500 did just that. Got Ina hurry to get it running and didn't do the seals..

OK thanks again for the tips and head's ups!

I get in a hurry too sometimes and it's my worst enemy when doing any wrenching. :(

I was reading my Clymer manual and it says the carbs do not all use the same size components so keep track of what parts go to what carb. I didn't realize until tonight I do not have a carb kit on hand for this bike so ordered one but it won't arrive for a while. I could either forge ahead and just clean everything good and hope that's good enough - or focus on the work needed on the clutch and brake systems. That's probably what I will do.

    Will update as appropriate......
