It happened to me, too. I believe that it will happen to everyone at one time or another. That's why I wear full gear every time I ride. Good luck with the recovery.

i should have been more clear. They want to value the bike at the $6,850 including the saddle bags and tank bra. Minus my $1,000 deductible they want to PAY me $5850.00 for my $7,553.89 payoff. I have no problem adding my deductible, but I'm still $700+ short of my payoff not to mention the tow bill, estimate and such.

I understand the GAP insurance, and would buy off on that had I traded in a vehicle I was upside down in. But honestly you shouldn't have to buy GAP insurance for a brand new vehicle with no trade in. Otherwise you would almost assuredly have to ALWAYS purchase GAP insurance on top of your regular insurance. that's just crazy. if you buy a new vehicle and total it a month later, you shouldn't HAVE to have GAP insurance to just get your payoff. or at least that's my feelings.

Maybe I'm just looking at it wrong. And the insurance company and I are only $700 + dollars apart, but it just aggravates me that on a new purchase, it should be covered, or at least when you buy the insurance, like you do with a house, it TELLS you how much you are insured for.

They also gave me the option of Keeping the bike and paying me $4,100 ish because he explained they "expected" to get $1,700 for the sale of the bike like it is.

Thanks Gary for the job you do, you are appreciated, don’t’ think I could do it. I have been flying for 30+ year’s, often someone that doesn't fly hears of a private plane crash and says they will never get in one again. I tell them that I have had a friend die in an auto accident then ask them if they have known someone who has. No matter the answer I ask them how they got to the funeral, then I tell them it’s not the vehicle it's your perception, as with all machines it’s the operator and sometimes fate dictates what happens no matter what. Riding, driving and flying safely is no accident.

Sounds like an ABS bike might have saved you on this one...?

ABS probably would have saved me. Never ridden an ABS bike so I have no feel for that.

Well, I'm pleased to announce that my insurance company reconsidered their value of my bike $6,300.00, and after reviewing the prices of bikes for sale, and checking with my purchasing dealer (they knew they had one left), they settled on a value of $7995.00 and added my $330.00 for Tax, title & license. So in the end it was $8330.00 (- my $1,000 deductible), they paid $7330.00 to Honda Acceptance today and gave me a check for my accessories.

I couldn't be happier. Now I just need a week to get the wife to buy off on another one!

Glad it worked out w/ ins. and you're ok. If they're going to resell it for $1700 I'll take it and rebuild it!!

Dude those numbers still sound kinda low. I had Progressive and got $7000 for my 06 with 18k on her when she came up missing. Maybe there is a difference due to location but I know a newer bike with fewer miles should have fetched more. They got their quotes (6300) from some joints that I had already called & got higher quotes for the few 06's I found. I told the adjuster that I'm not trying to get rich, just back on a bike FAST so they bumped it up. I know they already cut you a check but it aint over till its over. Call the places listed on their quote sheet and try & get a bike for the price they gave Progressive. If they won't, then go back to Progressive & tell them what you found. Good luck & happy hunting.

P.S. Tell the wife you'll bump up your life insurance & all will be fine.

Also glad to hear you only have minor injuries. I have much to say about wearing the proper riding gear. Like most respondents, you never know when something out of the ordinary will happen. I live in Arizona and regularly ride in the heat, e.g. 90-100F. I ALWAYS wear full gear; boot, jackets, pants, gloves, and helmet. I know I look like an odd-ball hear in AZ, but I can tell you for a fact that the asphate is a meat grinder. It will shred your normal street wear and without a helmet you won't even look good for your funeral. I had my only street accident back in 1963 and none since. Here in AZ, helmets are not required if you can imagine that. I guess the state picks up the tab for all the motorcyclists who end up vegetables and sipping their meals through straws for the rest of their lives. ALWAYS

Well, it's hard for me to complain about what they paid when they called my selling dealer and paid me exactly what I can go down there today and purchase the last brand new 07 RWD with zero miles they have in stock.

The wife is softening up and with any luck I'll be buying that bike next Saturday. Now the real problem, I haven't sat on a bike since the accident, so I need to see if I can even ride the thing home (2 hours) with my shoulder still hurt like it is!!!

The faring is like $700 the tank can be had for about $400, new wind shield is about $80 (after market puig or ZG). After market are better anyway. Clutch handle is $60 for oem. Etc. Etc. All this stuff can be installed by you. If there is not structural damage you should be able to repair for half. Most of the stuff is bolt on.

Good luck with. If totaled, there is a rwb on bay about once a week.

Glad to hear you are ok. Smart of you to be whirring your gear. Also thanks for sharing how the gear held up. It really helps. The other riders have confidence in the gear when they know how it will respond in a accident.

All the the stuff in the fall ca be replaced except you and your parts. Hope you ha e a speedy recovery.

That just means you didn't know how to spell the word in the first place! :heh:

That's a good payment from your insurance. I received about $7400 for my 2005 with 48,000. The wife will come around once she sees you're not hurt that bad. If your shoulders still bothering you you may have to fake it a little bit!

Well, I am the Proud new owner of ANOTHER new 07 RWB # 748 today. They have to bring the bike in from their sister store to my dealer so I won't be picking it up until the 24th, but the financing is done and they have my down payment.

I hope I can make this one last longer than I did the last one.

I'm glad to see that you're back into it. I'm assuming that you're still married. I guess you can have it all.

If you need back up I'm in a bad mood and have a better than half mile effective range.

ha, well to be honest, I bought the bike today, then about 3 hours later got the guts to send my wife a text asking her how mad she was going to be when she found out we bought a new bike today! LOL She had a few choice words then said she was kidding and figured it was just a matter of time.

See the real rest of the story here is a week after we bought that last bike, the transmission went out on her car, it wasn't worth fixing, so she got a new car. I made a point to remind her of that a few times over the last few days. I think that helped.
