I agree with most of what these guys said especially the importing portion. Unless you want to replace gauges etc... I know guys who imported R1's from Canada and it was a way bigger pain in the ass than they originally anticipated. More expensive too.

Saving money on the front end with purchase price is great, but don't forget a high milage unit will have more maintenance costs and higher chance of being previously wrecked, and everyone LIES LIKE BANDITS on this front. If you don't know how to really tell if its been crashed be careful. Look for steering stop tab being dented, they can't hide it... :lever: :blah:

My new VFR (new to me....)

I bought my 1998 VFR from a Dealer in Ontario. It has 38,000 km., Two Brothers exhaust (which sounds great), new chain, new steering bearings and a warranty until the end of June. Paid $5,500 plus taxes. I love the bike so I feel good about the deal. What do you think?

Blackjack--If you feel good, its all good. Buying used machines, the book is just that, a book! Some bikes are worth more and if you smile:biggrin: the money fades every mile!!!!!!!!!:lever:

That black 5G just rocks!!! We love to have fictitious battles on the forum about which generation is the best, but make no mistake, the 5g rules with it's fuel injection and arguable being the best all around VFR ever made! You did outstanding, I'm always very envious when i see a black 5g from Canada, wish we had them in the states...

I heard black in 98 was a bit rare....

Thanks R.W.. I heard the black VFR in 98 was a bit rare. Didn't know it was only available in Canada that way. Looks great with the black rims. The higher mounted Two Brothers exhaust really shows off the back wheel nicely. Have not had a chance to ride it since I bought it in January. Can't wait for nicer weather so I can do more than just run it up in the garage.

    Nice Bike M-Crew!

Great looking bike M-Crew! Yes, I bought it from GPBikes in Ajax. A bit concerned now after taking a good look at the the tires and asking a few questions to the group here. Looks like it might have been raced. Not sure what that means for the mechanical status. I hope it's positive as I would expect if you are going to race you would be very careful with the mechanicals of the ride.

I noticed that as well(Tires). You should bring it up with another dealer about certification. If it should pass like that...

I dont think it was raced.Probably used at a track day at Mosport or Shannonville..

Dont think you have any worries mechanically..VFours can take it..

BTW.That was the only 3rd blk 5th gen I have seen..The 2nd was built right after mine.S/N were one of...

    Fonthill.....

a small community about 15 minutes south of St. Catharines in the Niagara Peninsula. Lots of great riding in this area. One of the best rides is along the Niagara Parkway from Niagara on the Lake through Niagara Falls and down to Fort Erie. Beautiful !
