Essentially it sat for many years in a garage somewhere before it found its way to me. I cleaned the (horrible) gas tank with phosphoric acid, cleaned the carbs, changed the oil and filter, air filter and brake fluid. Replaced the fuel pump, filter and relay. Tossed in a battery and away she went. The only annoying issue is the petcock. Mine had a hole in it from corrosion and I was able to find a (crappy, overpriced) used one on ebay. I'm awaiting a new style to replace the factory with a kit that uses a Pingle valve and will not only never fail, but could be rebuilt if necessary. Anyway, it's a great bike that I've always wanted and is everything that my VTR was not.
Please share the fuel valve "kit" when you get it and document the install in a thread. There will be a few that are interested.
Will do, I should have it in a week or so. It's a bit pricey but there are options to keep cost down and or allow you to build it to suit your needs so to speak.
Ok, here's a little teaser: The black part in the first pic is just an adapter plate that bolts to the tank just like the OEM petcock. The one in the pic is of course 3d printed, the final version is of course CNC AL. The valve is from Pingel and is an on/off only, manual fuel valve that threads into the adapter plate. I'll have about 10 available for sale when I'm done testing and installing if anyone is interested. The threads are 3/8 NPT, so you can install any valve you like, you don't need the Pingel which is a pricey, but good, unit.
