    Update.
Got one of the many winter projects completed. Fitted some proper UNI foam in the OEM honda mouse air filter. Got it cleaned up real nice, you can't tell it was an animal bathroom in its former life.

On deck we have checking the valves, bike is at 18500 with no prior check.
Sprockets/chain is shot. Going to install a DID RX gold chain and new sprockets.
Going to clean and replace the fluid in the forks w/ race tech 1mm springs.
New EBC HH rear pad to match the fronts.
I think my front brakes need rebuit. There is a considerable amount of brake drag. Nothing that affects rideability or fuel economy, but the drag when rolling in and out of the garage is very loud. I may just rebuild them as I'm changing the brake fluid anyways. The bike sat for 5 years the o-rings probably did not hold up.

So, lots on the plate this winter. Plus other stuff not mentioned. Pics to follow.

Will be interested to see what you find. I started with the rear head and everything was spot on and with all the talk from people around here saying not to bother, I had half a thought about not continuing on to the front. The neurotic part of me wouldn't let that happen and good thing because all the valves on the intake cam for the front head were way out of spec.

I will post my findings here and on the valve thread.
That's funny about the attitude here. My XJ750, if you would say on the forum that you weren't or were afraid to check the valves they tore into you. Reason being is that the service interval was every 5k (which sucks BTW yamaha) and it was very easy to burn a valve in that motor. Plus those motors used YICS, a system in which yamaha swirled the intake mixture, so the valves being out of spec made the carbs un sync-able which the YICS made worse so the bike would run like garbage and have a pronounced idle hang. Another thing that stunk was you couldn't get the valves "Dead nuts", you could only get them in spec range.
But I can understand the intimidation and why a lot of people don't check and replace them. On the CB1 forum checking the valves was never a priority for anyone either.

Time to do some bike work.
Tore into the forks to replace the fluid and install my race tech springs. Glad I did as the forks had two different color fluids, one had way more than the other, and it had the fork spring upside down. Here is a picture of the one cleaned up and the dirty one in the background for comparison.

    rc51 oil cooler installed.
I ended up not disconnecting the lines under the motor. It went in with minimal bending and isn't hitting the header pipes. Also used a vice grip to rip off both tabs on the bottom.

cool CB-1 .... I always wanted one of those, just because they are rare.
I had two 1988 Honda Hawk GT 650's over the past 10 years ... one gray and one blue.
You usually see the 1989 - 1991 red ones.

    Thanks Tinker.
Yeah I do miss my CB1, but with it being rare, it was a major PITA getting parts for it.
It's nice getting something for the VFR and not seeing it's on national back order or discontinued.

unfortunately a lot of stuff is no longer available for the 1994-1997 VFR750 anymore it seems.
guess that is just part of owning a "vintage" bike.
I rebuilt a 1986 VFR700 about 10 years ago. That was hard to get parts for too.
I guess once a bike is over 15 years old, nobody is supposed to buy new parts for it ;-)

    Time for an update:
I found a hella awesome deal on a corbin seat on ebay off a wrecked VFR.
It has a some minor damage to the lower right rear side. For $120 shipped I could not pass it up.
The seat cowl hides some damage although a rip runs along the front of the cowl. I'll worry about recovering it this winter.

Well, after owning my bike for almost a year and sharing space in the garage with the wife's suv, it finally happened.
I had moved it and put it on the center stand and started prepping if for the VFRness and volt gauge install. She came in,tagged it and knocked it over.
Thankfully I had the seat off and next to it, it fell off the seat and didn't scratch or crack the fairing. All that broke was the windscreen and the mirror snapped. There is a small gash on the upper cowl that will be a battle scar now.
So she's in the basement waiting for parts now. My Arrow Carbon high mount will be here soon so she'll roll out next week a whole new monster.

    Wishful thinking...
So I spent the afternoon installing the VFRness and my volt gauge. It doesn't clear the factory screen where it's at but does clear the double bubble.
I've got a new double bubble, left mirror, and black lever set (clutch lever is a little tweaked) coming. My blackbird FPR and exhaust should be here soon. Looking forward to a nice video of it running after I do that.

Got my Arrow High mount today. Yay for me.
Got it on, took a while I had to do some trimming on the end of the pipe, it was way too long for some reason.
Ended up buttoning up the rest of the bike and I rolled her out to set the idle and hear it run. Thankfully I seemed to reconnect all the lower airbox shit correct.
Also as I noted in the fuel pressure thread I did the old "pound it with a socket" trick. And no the hammer used was not specially calibrated.
