Thanks not yet - lol BUT I'm working on it.... & will get better

    The scary part is:
I've been working & playing on bikes for about 30ish years now & this is the first time I've ever tried to do a 'smpathetic restore'...

& I have no manual for this bike... Oh well, I'm sure I'll figure it out

    Very nice!

I've always wanted a VFR400. They're hard to come by up here.

    Keep up the good work.

If it's not a labor of love, what is?
Can't you find service manual online?

    Hi, VFR4Lee,
nope - they never made one for this model - lol.
It fine - I'm going to wing it....ha, ha, ha

The thing I'm worried about most is finding the parts after the bike is in bits....

    Do yourself a favour.

UNLESS it is a NC30 or NC35 then don't get it.

Parts for this bike are really getting hard to get - to the point, air filters are gone, carb parts, fork springs difficult, rear suspension lol, etc,etc...
You almost need a spares bike to maintain it - or live in the U.K. where there are a few still about.

The nc30 is a better bike all round & the best part is: you can get almost everything still, and it's only a little more money.

Pete, the parts issue was the first thing that came to mind. For amusement I will watch the auction. I'll post the result. Thanks.

I bought this bike fairly cheaply as a runner (badly) & was very local - 3 miles away.

This was bought as a tool to improve my skills how to maintain, prep, restore, paint, etc, etc. As such, even if I fail with this (lol - I won't) I'm not out that much money & will learn enormously from it.

The auction says it runs great, imported from UK with documents, 24,000 miles, looks like it has Chinese replacement fairings. Current bid is $1,525USD.

Save your money - get a NC30 or 35 - both are going up in price. I promise you will be happier. The NC35 is sublime - I know as I have one...

I'm not bidding. Just kind of like the motorcycle, and it reminded me of yours. Thank you for the sound advice.

Good advise get a vfr400r-nc30 or rvf400-nc35. I had a nc30 and its the only bike I regret selling, brilliant little thing. The nc35 is the evolution of the 30 and is even better but quite rare. Both are going for high prices and will only go one way from now.

Yeah, but you don't get that frisson of excitement you get when thrashing a VF500, that any second the engine could explode ;-)
