    Crazy money....

Found a few more jobs to do this weekend..

Whilst painting the valve covers, I checked a couple of cam cover bolts & found they were loose - arghhh..

So need to check torque all bolts & while I'm there ck valve timing..

just need a set of feeler guages as mine have long dissappeared.

Starting to get my head around this bike now its in a load of bits, shocked how most of it is: clean / repaint / polish..

    Calipers painted - 3 x UHT primer, 2 x gold, 2 x clear - got carried away...

also cleaned most of the swing arm, painted a couple of brackets, side stand & the Radiator..

Another Nc24 - lol, its in as many pieces as this one so may be used as a parts bike - won't know till I collect it next Friday. It was very very cheap - $400 with some other bits so figured it was worth a punt at that price. It's also in the Rothmans colours.

So today I collected my 'parts' bike - lol...
    Had a lot of fun, 6 1/2hrs driving, 440 miles, 1 x full car & raining !!

Yes there is a bike in there... & another frame !

[IMG]DSCF6961 by Pete Smith, on Flickr

amazing how much will go in a Honda Accord Tourer...
[IMG]DSCF6960 by Pete Smith, on Flickr

all the stuff out - just the heavy bit to go.
[IMG]DSCF6967 by Pete Smith, on Flickr

now stacked up & ready for a better look at what I've got...
[IMG]DSCF6970 by Pete Smith, on Flickr

Will decide soon as to if it becomes another bike or just parts when I've checked all the bits & discovered what I'm missing & what I need for this to work fully again...

Ok now checked it over, it looks like all the major parts are there, but will need fairings and a tank. I'm going to finish this one first then that a closer look at it.

Wow - Its amazing what the mother in law will let you store in her garage!

That looks like an amazingly useful and cheap parts source especially as many of the parts have already been removed for you. Hopefully you can now build one decent VFR400 bike with all the best bits, and still make a cheap Bitza VFR400 using the left over and second choice parts. If you are lucky just selling the Bitza should recoup the cost of the parts bike and your fuel bills.

    Have fun.

Yep that is the current plan as doing much else my wife will kill me...lol

I'm currently at the 2 steps forward, 1 step back stage.
This weekend I was planning on putting the front back together when I turned the bars from lock to lock and it hesitated in the centre - bugger - headstock bearings.
So rapid decision was pull the entire front off, remove the top and bottom yoke bearings, also repaint the top yoke & bars.. just waiting on bearings to arrive. As the forks are off I'm going to repaint the lowers and change the fork oil..

Allegedy, I now have a BAN on buying any more bikes (until we get a new house) - nothing like a little motivation lol

    However,,,,

    I can get bits....lol

So luckily enough I have just sourced these:

Powdercoated yokes, new bearings & reconditioned forks.

[IMG]P1070235 by Pete Smith, on Flickr

    Powdercoated front wheel, new bearings.

[IMG]P1070233 by Pete Smith, on Flickr

1 x complete set of Rothmans original fairings

[IMG]P1070231 by Pete Smith, on Flickr

A fairly good result - saves me hours on my existing stuff...

It was always on the plans to change the oil & give it a full service anyway so it tomorrow its coming off & replaced with the Honda filter....

The bike is starting to come together now - carbs on, bars on, forks on, & looking much prettier..

I am glad that Anne-Marie hasn't seen it yet - I thought it was impossible to get a rusty K&N filter does to its self lubricating properties- lol...

Does that mean this bike has no oil in it !!!!!!

    Glad I'm checking today... phew
