So now that I've gotten the VFR tucked onto the lift, what's everyone's general opinion on these bikes as far as bringing it back to stock or keeping it modded?

When I did the VF, I wanted to bring it back to stock mechanical condition and keep the paint as-is. Not sure where to go with the VFR however. Like I said before, it has a few aftermarket bits and a Hindle 4-1 already. Is it worth trying to track down a stock exhaust and bring the bike 100% back to stock or what?

Much hand-wringing has been done so far with this scoot.....

Stock exhaust from '86? Not sure that you would be able to find one in decent shape. I wouldn't waste any time looking for one. My ten cents.

You're gonna pay $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for any semi-decent original mufflers. Marvic makes some replicas in black. Good quality, but you pay.

You're better off picking any two appropriate 2" slip-on mufflers of your choice and having some simple connecting pipes made to connect to the decent Stainless stock headers. It will sound amazing, be lighter than stock and not be obnoxious.

thanks guys, I'm sure the exhaust that's on it now will sound awesome, it looks good so I'll just run with that.

It has a K&N as well and the PO mentioned it popped a lot on decel when he had to ride it. What are good jet sizes on these carbs? Planning on pulling them apart and giving them the same treatment I gave the VF carbs.

The muffler is likely in need of a re-pack. Go up to a #40 on the pilot jet. I even put a 42 in one of mine that has a similar 4-2-1, and it is great. The carbs are out right now, I'm gonna double check the mains to document as I lost a bunch of bike files in a computer melt down.
