Well, after dicking around with the fairing today I'm going to follow the consensus here and get a new one. I could probably make the repairs but what the hell, I've only had the bike less than a week so I'd like to be the first one to ding it up.

Thanks for the tip on Ron Ayers, they are a couple of hundred less than bike bandit. What's up with that? I actually have ordered from RA but forgot about them as I last ordered parts for the Helix and BB has the best selection of years.

Am I correct in assuming that the red 02 was Italian Red? Bike has been garaged its whole life so colors should match nicely. Thanks for all of the advice and help for this VFR noob.

Never assume about paint colors or names, they change from year to year as the materials change and improve. Since you are a noob VFRwise there are freebies downloads of service manuals around.

Italian Red could even be a member of the Communist Party or Dago Red.. Italy's answer to MD2020.

Your busted fairing can be fixed and is worth some bucks to someone in need.

In non-Billy-nese, that means, make sure you get the part matching your year/color, then sell your busted part on ebay for those with less $$ to make back some of your cash.

Good deal realbtl. Yes, I was just throwing ideas out there. If you want OEM quality and finish, the ebay parts will not satisfy you. Buying OEM sounds right for you.

From my perspective, unless you have buddies to take care of you, painting is freaking expensive for good quality work/materials.

I would seriously consider going the chinese fairings route, if my plastics were perfect. Unmolested plastics with perfect paint are worth some serious bucks. Even buying less than perfect parts off ebay would be stupid expensive. Crack your nose fairing and there is the entire price of a chinese fairing set in whatever color gets your goat. There's even a kit in a Repsol scheme with yellow so I wouldn't have to paint my tank. (ooooooohhhhhh :nerd: ) It's a fun option to consider and at the price, it beats buying vinyl decals and painting.

Make sure you look up your paint code before you order, so you get the right part. Nothing worse than being annoyed at the mismatch every time you look at the bike.

In Billy-ese, Billy would have written "fewer $$" which was taught to him by his grammar. Oh shit, there goes that goat again..

Nah, no such luck as a cliff. I live in an open valley ..... so I gotta wear kilts.

Goats and sheep can hear a zipper from a mile away.
