The 06+ vfr800 ecu can be reflashed by Guhl. So You could buy a wrecked 6.5 gen and swap over all the electronics/ecu/harness etc on to your fifth gen and then have Guhl custom dyno tune it, probably with a power commander and then flash it to suit. Or you could get a stand alone megasquirt ECU and make your own custom harness and mapping from scratch. Or you could make a timing advancer plate. Or you could just get a Rapid Bike Racing Module.

But it is a pretty safe bet, no one is touching your fifth gen ecu.

LOL :torn: talk about a wet blanket. Yea after talking all this over with Yamin, it was pretty clear the hurdles for what a couple degrees mid range where going to be, not only money but the time makes it all that much more crazy to try and do. yea I could throw a grand at it and probably only see a minor improvement, so unless I was willing to do those RC45 cams, more than likely it's not going to be worth the trouble, But. Idle fingers has me at the least looking into it. So on to the big picture probably not going to happen, but ya never know

The old rapid bike 2's were a huge bang for the buck. They did fuel/ignition/quick shift, but with out all the fancy o2 sensors, auto tuning, youtune, launch control, traction control, multiple mapping etc...
I got mine on a closeout sale back in 2011, when Lenny at rapidbikeusa.com lost the north american dimsport dealer contract to Yaman at Cycle Pro / Rapidbike.us
I bought my RB2 from Lenny for $250 plus a quick shifter and usb cable. I was at like $400 out the door. That RB2 module was great, but I wanted more and I eventually met Yaman and we made the group buy happen.

In all I reality I don't know how well the non vtec bikes respond to ignition timing, since I have a VTEC, but I can tell you that adding 5 degrees of advance in the midrange makes A HUGE DIFFERENCE on the vtec models.
I want to say when mohawk put a Rapid Bike Racing on his 2000 fifth gen and he could only advance the timing about 2 degrees before it started knocking, so you'll have to ask him.

Still working on the ignition advance, but on standard fuel (95RON) in Europe, I run a max 2 degrees.

OK Heading out the door to see Mike Valasco today, should be interesting if we can get those same numbers Rick got 8 years ago. fingers crossed. I know it's more about just getting the VFR running smoother through the whole range, but a few extra ponies would be sweet, here's to seeing if that 110 mark can be match seeing I have the same set up.

Looking forward to the result, good luck with it.

TH CR, re the fuel statement, I could push to 3.5 degrees on 98/99 RON fuel, but its hard to find, not very station has it, most at 97only

Hmmmm I was also thinking about the fact that the VTEC models have lean burn heads, where only one valve opens up at low RPMs which introduces a swirl in the combustion chamber. This may be why when the AFR is richened, the VTEC models can tolerate much more ignition advance.
