I would think this one through. No doubt you can ship tires from your vendor to anywhere in the continental USA at the same price. But I would think, albeit unqualified, that you can get the oil and chain closer at hand. It may cost a couple dollars more for the product, but the weight involved with oil, chain and sprockets is nothing to sneeze at. Shipping of those must be expensive and that is based on distance if you are using UPS.

I too may be in need of tires, chain and sprockets by that time. Tire's too maybe. I should have a better idea as I get closer to the time. Hell. You and I could drink beer while we watch someone else do the maintenance on our rides. I hate oil drips so I will be watching very closely.

I'll just have whomever I order it from ship to the staging point instead of my residence. I'll probably buy the oil and filters locally when I'm there, but the other stuff is WAY cheaper online.

With as many of us as there are riding huge distances to this event, I think an organized maintenance day is gonna be a reality. The question is where. Marrib already offered up his casa- but it's off the route best taken for me, and no where near where the rest of the attendees would need it.

What is the round trip? like 4500 miles? Throw a set of Pilot Road 2 or 3 on, fresh oil change, and chain if you really need it and you should be good to go the whole trip.

It's gonna be over 5k by the time it's all said & done. Google maps posts over 2300 from city to city, but there will be more than just the there & back. I'm gonna change the oil before coming back- super slabbing each way thru the desert is bad enough, but running that many miles in just a few days is worth changing the oil.

The tires I just threw on will only have 800-1200 on them by the time late may gets here, so They'll probably be good for the whole trip- but once again: super slabbing thru the desert is gonna gut the center of them, so I'll put fresh ones on over there & not have to worry about them on the return trip or changing them when I get back. I'm actually toying with the idea of ordering them early, getting a second set of wheels, breaking them in before the trip & then shipping them ahead...

As for the chain- I may do it here before I go, or It might me good for another 10k... Don't know how that ones gonna go yet.

am on the fence myself with tires. The 5th gen has a soft compound with miles remaining on them. Don't remember what they are right now. Doubt they would make the trip out and back. Luckily, buddy up the street has a no-mar tire changer. Just a PITA to change. But the soft compounds could just get hung on the wall for a backup pair in case of emergency or to close out a season.

You might be able to afford a "new" bike if you convince the insurance company that your bike is totaled; just show them a recent picture! As for the tires... I guess my chances of getting another flat are more than yours. I do go further than the first turn on the rides...

I am available to mount your tires when you get this far. You can ship them to my work and they'll be available whenever you get here. I actually have a couple good used fronts i'd let go for damn cheap that'd be perfect for slabbing the hell out of.

Lemme know if you need my assistance.

True that. GM, you should do all your motorcycle work at the Oceanside house. You will need to stop there before heading to R3 for much needed refreshments.

yeah, but you ride like your hemorrhoids are inflamed.... and no convincing the insurance company that my bike was totaled would only get me maybe 1500 bucks....
now if you want to kick in another say, 1500 bucks I'll come out and get TOE's other bike that he is selling....
