hi to all , yesterday after a closer look when oiling my chain , noticed that the axle nut was not flush , was indeed very loose . Noticed the nut wasn't "pinched" on the groove like it was supposed to , so it don't be allowed to spin.
I'm ridding it since September (supposedly) like this when i bought it , stopped it for the "refresh/overhauling" , almost 1500km after i have noticed this. Very bad job from the mechanic that worked on it before.

    I didn't disassembly it yet to check if everything is ok , but need to ask ;

It is suppose to the hub have a little movement ? not rock solid ? So the damper inside can do his work?

What kind of damage can i expect from this issue?

I thing the brake disc hold everything in place , because it limits the axle play on this case.

    What do you think?

I think you should torque the nut properly. If the rear wheel still turns freely, then stake the nut. This is not the first VFR where the nut has come loose after somebody worked on it.

If you want to disassemble everything to inspect, go for it. Just be warned, you might be getting into something you didn't want to.

I need to inspect just to be sure. I can't sleep well if don't.
Also I will take the opportunity to grease those needle bearing.

Mine was off one thread, I re-torqued it and end of story, there is a steaking to be done too after you un-steak it then torque, then steak it. I need a T-b0ne after this conversation. Stake as opposed to Steak. Take pictures of the hub if you go with the disassembly because its stimulating to me and I think others in this forum. Peace

Tomorrow is my day off and will disassemble it and take pictures of the process as usual. No worries. :)

Screenshot_20240217-192254_1_1.png Can someone tell me if the conical washer #part 25, that is next to the axle nut , does the rounder side points to inside or outside? Can't determine through the repair manual .

Top of the "cone" typically goes against the nut.

Sitting here thinking about it, I could wrong too. My first thought was what I said tho.

Trying to remember when I see "out" stamped in them. Pretty sure it is top of the cone.

Everything disassembled and seems all good . Bearings still good , no noise , will give it a good clean and grease everything again and put back in. Nice job! You could go deeper and clean the inside of that swing arm, I have seen bikes on the interweb with lots of pebbles and grit in there. I point those cone shaped washers with the fatter side away from the jam nut. That is just me, I am in the habit, (daily) of always, and I repeat always, looking at washers and determining what side is what.

Side bar note that has nothing to do with your thread, I learned recently that it is frowned upon to re-use a wire nut, maybe against electrical code or more. Peace

Nice. You want some real Moly paste for the splines. And this is the only time you can remove the disc if you wanted to re-finish it.

Unfortunately I only have some lithium enriched with molybdenum grease from PETRONAS. Don't know if I can use this instead.

Better than nothing. But if I spent all the time going thru that rear end, it wouldn't be going back together without the real stuff. Even the BMW guys use the Honda Moly.

The strange is that the rapair manual don't say to use some paste/grease. But it should.
