Well, I was initially going to use lacquer paints, but the store I was getting the light blue pint mixed up at talked me into enamels. Mostly because they are pretty hard and scratch resistant, and the pint I got mixed up was far cheaper than the lacquer.

I have painted with lacquers before, and figured I may as well try something different.

In hindsight, I would have preferred using lacquers, as the enamel is a really tricky paint to get right.

Like I mentioned before, the only thing I have left to do is wet sand and buff. Here's some photos outside of the garage:

That's a good idea and they look pretty good. If you don't mind I may pinch it from you.

So the only update to tell about is that I've installed the black number plate outlines as well as the old-school VFR 750F decals (which were way larger than I envisioned them). I'm not totally sold on how the number plate is shaped, either.

I'll post some pics up if anyone cares - once the bike got "completed", this thread seemed to die off.

Oh, quit your bellyaching and post the pictures. We went to 5 pages - not too shabby by any stretch. And I would guess that once a bike is "completed", that kind of signals the end of something, no?

So lets see the new decals. Maybe I'll tell you they look terrible, and you should start the whole paint job all over again so we can take this 20 pages.

For clarification, yes, I'm busting balls.

+2 I love the look of your bike. Nice work. Can't believe the change it made.

P.S. - I devolved a major hate for enamels way back when I was a kid painting 1:24 models. Seeing those wrinkles really brought back some memories...

Keep going, I would love to see the completed article. Having recently dropped mine I am 1 step closer to trying something similar!

Here are the tail number plates. What do you guys think? The RC36's lines don't really lend themselves to the shape...

    I want one!

Might I humbly suggest it works without the black tape. And have you thought about running the color across the NACA ducts?
And get a hi-level 'zorst...show off the nice white wheels!
    cheers

Suggestion on the number plate. If the black stripe is removable maybe try a thinner stripe. Don't square off the back edge, follow the shape of the tailpiece. If your still not "totally sold" then loose it. And go with the gold stripe along the red & blue border on the seat cowl. However it ends up your bike looks AWESOME!

Still looks great, but I'm with the other guys. Something seems out of place with the black tape - not sure if its the thickness of the line, or the line that it follows. Just MHO.

I'm not feeling it, either. Black striping tape in my area turned out to be about as difficult to find as hen's teeth. 1/2" was choice A (and used), choice B was 1/4" (far too narrow).

I'm parking it in the sun tomorrow and pulling the black tape. The cowling stripe will be re-done in gold.

    Thanks for the input!
