He is going to make up a spare set for me. He also mentioned he could make some up for people if they were interested. He was thinking about $25 shipped. These are made from aluminum. They don't require a significant amount of torque nor are they submitted to much in the way of stresses. Hey if it's good enough for aircraft structures.... Also, he didn't have any stainless at the time ;)

Count me in for a set. They would be quite useful.

I will send you a PM when he gets a set done. He's going to incorporate the small groove for bungee cords like mentioned above too.

I have been using the quick releases (from Sargent) more than 10 years now. I did have to drill out the old threads for them to work but if you do need to put on a rack of some kind you could use an insert or a nut on the back. I've bungee'd bags to mine and even use them for my "custom" Goldwing top box. Never ever had 1 problem with them. Haven't even lost one. yet. I think the frankenbolts are 6mm and you do have to drill out the threads but there is enough material left over it is possible to rethread it for a 7mm socket head cap screw...

I am a big believer in K.I.S.S. so I always carry a large diameter washer in my jacket.
It's super cheap, simple and always works great in removing the rear seat cowl.

Or do it like the old days and tuck your insurance and registration papers behind your drivers license in your wallet.

It's been years since I owned a bike that even had a tool pouch. Lol.

I too just put the documents in my pocket. That way, if my ride is stolen, they do not have my address as well. Or now, if they use their hands to unscrew your $25 bolts, they can take your insurance & registration, and go to your home, cause they know you're out on your bike right now. A little paranoid, but no worse than thinking that you couldn't get your seat cowl off. There is always something around to assist in that.

Probably best to machine the latest issue out of stainless. Or, aluminum could be powdercoated or if anyone is into megafarkles the obvious choices would be carbon fibre or titanium. Or gold or silver or even platinum. Me? I'd go the economy route and at least I'd have a quarter left to remove my stock bolts.

Sooo, how much is a set of stock frankenbolts anyway?

I think I remember looking those up at about $13 each a while back.

I'd take a set of these for sure, especially since one of my Frankenbolts fell out while I was riding a month or so ago. The grooves on the remaining one are also so worn that it's hard to get them off with anything other than an allen wrench.

The guys that makes them is out of province for a couple months on a course. I'll let you know when he's back and ready to make some more.

He's back at it now. I have an updated picture with a different shank. These ones will have a notch incorporated for a bungee hook. Let me know if anyone wants a set.

Why not make them half that length, so they don't stick out. You don't want or need to attach bungees when the seat hump is on, you're not likely to strap stuff down to the nice shinny hump.

At a much shorter length it's very hard to get enough purchase on them with your fingers to undo or tighten. That's what I thought anyways.

I came to the very same conclusion. I may buy some anyway and just take a bigass hammer and flatten out that hump thing..

$30 shipped through Paypal or e-mail money transfer. I will check on shipping to Australia and get back to you. But I think it should be the same thing.

Looks like shipping to Australia is roughly $5 more than US. So $35 would cover that. Let me know. We're both going out of town until April 9th so we won't be able to ship anything until after that.
