So my side case covers were getting tatty after 18 years and I got a bug up my ass today to fix it as I had all the parts on hand. The aluminum was oxidizing under the paint and causing it to look quite cancerous.

First removed side cover and wire wheeled away all cancer as well as remaining gasket material from underside.

Removed O rings from filler and dipstick hole and then applied (liberally) paint stripper

Wire brushed it off after 20 mins and went for another dip

Washed 3x and then neutralized with Spray Prep, then went 5 super thin coats of PJ1 Engine Enamel

    all better.

total time invested 2 hours, level of difficulty 1 on a scale of 1..5

A nice coat of paint on forlorn looking pieces is always a easy and inexpensive to improve the appearance of any vehicle. I've even had good experiences painting wheels with duplicolor wheel paint on cars and I'll probably do the wheels on my VFR when they get crummy. I've used a citrus based stripper before on wheels, what kind of paint stripper did you use?

    looks good

Pay no mind to Toecutter he's been hanging out with Crusty and it's turning him into a photo snob. Basically if the pic doesn't have boobs in it, it gets panned
