Question for the guys out there miling through the forum....I recently bought a smoked tail light for my VFR 1200 and quickly noticed a problem with the connector on the tail light. It appears the connector doesn't fit properly because the notches on the connector are slightly off so I was wondering if filing down one of the notches is safe and if I could do this would this make the connection loose? I also noticed on the custom tail light the hole where the light which illuminates the license plate was not drilled out and if I had to drill this out my self in order to install the light? Another question...I recently installed a two brothers exhaust on my VFR, ran it a little and immediately noticed white smoke (very minimal) and was curious if this could cause a problem. I didn't leave my VFR running very long and this exhaust was brand new out of the box so I figure this might be the issue. Any help with this would be appreciated. **NOTE: If these two topics were discussed I apologize for reposting again.
The white smoke is probably residue oils burning off from the (I assume) brand new can. The notches on the connector... depends on how far off they are, if it is just slightly, it's probably mfr tolerances, so you can do with you need (snip off the matching ridge, etc.) to make it fit. I wouldn't worry abut it being loose. You can always wrap a piece of electrical tape around the mated connectors. Now if notches are off by a lot, I would be more careful. May be upload a pic here so we can take a look.
Appreciate the help Volfy! I was able to install the tail light by filing down one of the notches on the connector and it fit with no problem. The white smoke was from the residue from the factory as I rode today and didn't notice the smoke any longer. I was a little nervous since I've never done this before, but everything is good now. Once again thanks for the help!
the install instructions with my Akro slip on said to expect a small amount of white smoke on initial start up
