So many of you know I just got back from baja. I enjoy going down there, but I'd like to ride in other places also. One of those places is South America. I had always thought it'd be a part of a long trip from here down, but this article over on ADVrider got me thinking about another option. https://advrider.com/how-to-make-ri...utm_campaign=editorial&utm_content=12_18_2018
Talking about a fly ‘n ride Reg? If so, do your research if you want to rent a bike in country A and ride to country B, C, D, and E. E. G. Issues with getting a bike in Peru and riding into Bolivia. I’ve heard renting in Chile works out better.
The Arctic Ocean at Prudhoe Bay Alaska is still a go. Seems crossing that border will be easier...hopefully, buy end of May. But I have also wondered about riding down to the southern tip of South America. Then head out to Port Alice BC Canukistan and ride to the Cape Spear lighthouse on the Newfoundland rock. So I would have arguably have been to the furthest point south in the Americas, and the furthest point east and west of Canada. But I think I am getting a little too old for this kind of shit. I think I will settle for Prudhoe Bay in June, and Cabo san Lucas in November. I think I need to curtail the long trips a bit. Riding through Central America would definitely be an adventure though.
Yes, riding in Central America would definitely be something. If it just wasn't so damn volatile, it'd certainly be interesting, but I have no desire to be robbed or even fleeced.
That's exactly what I meant by adventure. I think I would be mailing or shipping my goods from one side of that area to the other and just travel with enough food to make it through, and hope I was not relieved of my burden of riding a bike through that area.
Got a booklet from Renadian Adventure Tours yesterday, excorted tours of Africa, etc. and one to Ushuaia, Chile. Fly to Mendoza, Argentina, then ride your supplied BMW F800Gs , all for the price of CAD$16,750 for 22 days. 5000 kms total, 1900 of that is gravel.
$16,750 is a little rich for my wallet. Even if it is Canadian funds. Sounds like it would be a nice tour though. I would consider a guided bike tour of Vietnam though. I haven't seriously contemplated that though. That will happen just before the divorce if I go though.
I did a 10 day guided ride in Peru in 2001. We did lots of gravel, beach riding, and sand dunes. The bikes were Honda TT500's and we had a great time. A small group, about a dozen if I remember correctly with most riders from other than the US, including Japan and Great Britain. Topped it off with a 4-day hike up the Inca Trail into Machu Picchu. I think the cost of the tour was around $1000 IIRC. Beautiful country. The company might still be in business: Inca Moto.
