    Hey guys,
Does any of you know if the VFR has a speed or tach limit in 6th gear?
I have not tried to do max RPM in 6th gear, Scary speed up there.
but I have hit 12500 rpm in lower gears once or twice chasin my buddies on liter bikes and ECU shuts down engine until revs drop below limit 12500.
by my seat of the pants calculation 11500 rpm in six you would be around 160 MPH. my best speed to date is 141 mph indicated. this isn't about speedometer accuracy. I am curious tho

    from what I understand,

the bike is electronicly limmited at 155mph (I'm sure that's "Indicated", which comes out to about 145mph)

Nope, speed is not limited but revs are. When engine gets to limit revs fuel is cut of,sounds like banging in engine.

So is there a quick and easy way to bypass this limiter? I want to get new back sprocket but then it's just going to shut the bike down that much sooner  Or maybe my question should be can I adjust my speedo?

You would not want to bypass the rev limiter; it's there to prevent engine damage. Shorter gearing will allow you to run through the gears quicker giving you better acceleration but you will loose some at the top end. Usually a good trade as most people don't regularly ride above 140 mph. I haven't changed my gearing yet as I usually ride around 80-85 mph on my commute and I like the RPM's I'm pulling in 6th gear.

As mentioned before limiter is there to prevent the engine, first replace the sprocket then think what to do next.

I don't normally go over 135-140 My average speed around home and to work and back is between 60-75. I agree I don't really want to disable the rev limiter. I have never missed a gear but I have hit the rev limiter doing a wheelie once. The only reason I'm concerned with the top speed thing is because every once in a great while I'll race my friends. The fastest bikes in my circle of friends are CBR600rr, GSXR 750 and GSXR 1000. The rest of my friends have slower sport-touring bikes. I know I prolly can't beet them but I don't want to shut down 30-40 mph before them either. What about the speedometer? Is there a way to correct that after changing sprockets? I guess the bottom lines is I guess it's ok if there isn't a way around the shut down but I would still like to be able to adjust the speedometer to match my new sprocket. Any ideas?

Thanks. Looks like a good little package. Any body have one of these? Just wandering if it's as good as it says on the web site?

I have one. It's the best money I ever spent. It's easy to install and dead accurate.

there are GPS units that calculate speed accurately as well with no installation issues

I hear that GPS isn't exactly "real time". How much of a lag is there?
