Speedometer Gauge appearance issues

Looked at a 2014 DLX today for possible purchase. Good overall but when I went on the test ride, the speedo was hardly readable. Didn't matter how I sat or the varying angle of the sun. Other side looked OK.
Even in the shade, the speed digits were hard to see.
Speedo numbers almost looked burned or sun faded. Is that an issue with the 8th Gen bikes?
Gauge cover was scratched quite a bit all over but I dont think that is causing the issue I saw.

 

Did you try going through the panel setup menu and vary the LCD Backlight Brightness level, might make a big difference, there are 5 levels of adjustment and all described in the Owners Manual.

 

I did not. Didn't know was an option. I met the seller at a gas station and noticed it. He commented at certain angles he also noticed it.

I have never had an issue with how the speedo displayed day, or night on my 2014 VFr.
