Hey all, Peggy and I are thinking of hauling the RV and bikes down to the Hill Country this coming April. Can anyone give me a decent idea of what the weather will be like, and good areas to park the RV and do some riding and sight seeing. Also appreciated would be some advice on whether the weather will be amenable to warm riding.

I'm cross-posting this to the other list, so I do appreciate any advice, rumors, hearsay, mind-wanderings, etc.

    TIA

    Howard

Flowers are already blooming, last week had a couple 80 deg days. This week mornings in the are upper 40's and afternoons upper 70's. Haven't seen a cloud in 2 days, normally I would be rejoicing but we are very dry. By mid April I would think we will be about 10 degrees warmer, if we have some rain before then it would perfect riding weather.
Are you looking Llano north or Fredericksburg- Kerrville south? Lots of Hill country in Texas west of 35.

Thanks for the info. Probably looking at Fredericksburg and surrounding area. Haven't totally
decided on location yet. But it looks like lots of good riding in the area.

We are east of Fredericksburg about an hour. North, west, south you can't go wrong. Lot's of RV places near by or State parks are always good. Areas of note are, South to Three Sisters, lots of curves, West to Kerrville area all roads out of there are good, North to Llano and beyond. I don't do the sisters anymore, too many people... I tend to stay away from popular riding areas, but lots of FM roads around Vanderpool, Rocksprings, Vanderpool. Oh Medina, The Apple Store, Lunch and get desert. They don't sell phones! ; ) I'll keep posting conditions as it gets close to April. Llano has lots of BBQ joints, some good some hype. Castell used to have a great hamburger place, but I have not been up that way in many years. Hmm... perhaps a mid week assignment.

Sounds great, many thanks. Texas is supposed to have good BBQ, almost as good as Kansas City. :)

Would like to say I've tried both but... the couple times I've been thru K.C. I was unsuccessful. Flying for company business once to Youngstown Ohio had a lay over in K.C., plane was 5 hours late, then had a 3 hour wait there because I missed the connection into Cincinnati. So I went looking for BBQ, it's close to 7 at night so everything was closed & locked. Came back thru Baltimore, wasn't my week late again no crab/seafood places open at airport.
Every time I see Guy on his D, D & D tv show & he happens to be in K.C. I think to myself, "one day I'm going there".
My sister retired to Springfield, sometime when we are up there visiting need to talk the wife into a RTE in K.C. for lunch then over to St.L for dinner. Excuse me I have to go check the frig! :Hungry:

Had some rain early this week, things are greening up.

The main problem with KC and the airport location is getting from the airport to anywhere. They just don't have
good transportation to and from. Most BBQ joints will be open at least until 10:00, or later on the weekend. But
this furor over the virus has closed many of the really good places. Probably about a dozen good joints in and
around KC. Some outstanding, and others are just great, and of course a few that are so-so.

    Unfortunately, none near the airport.

OH, no I didn't leave the airport! Not the way that week was going. : 0 I was just wondering around in the airport terminal area not wanting to go thru security again. This was back in... about 2015 I think. Most airport gift shops and restaurants close I would guess around 6 or so. At one time Austin had several good local eateries that opened satellites at the airport. Never returned back home except on a red eye so everything is closed by then. Not sure any are still there with our situation as it is today. But I don't fly anymore, leave that to the working youngsters.

Weather report: tomorrow morning is expected to be 47 deg. Would be about 4 deg. cooler 35 miles west like Fredericksburg. High is to be in the middle 70's. I may have to get out the bike and ride tomorrow. I looked out 10 days and the lowest was 45 and the high was to be 85.

Have you found a RV parking area yet, are you finding openings?

We haven't really started looking seriously, the trip south was actually supposed to happen last year, but things
happened and we didn't go. Maybe this year, as we do need the getaway.

Peggy wants to head north to Wisconsin and the UP (Michigan). We're not sure yet, nothing firmed up yet. I have
heard that a lot of the state and federal campgrounds are having issues with open sites, but we usually stay in
private campgrounds/RV sites, and that may not be as big of an issue. Thanks for the input, much appreciated.

Just an update. Misty rain today, may total .01. Forecast for late next week is 90+ for high. Looks like summer riding gear is out and the liners can be put away! Wisconsin & Michigan are looking pretty nice about now. Don't get me wrong I like summer but 8 months of it is about my limit. It will be 100 here quickly.

Well we made thru the upper '90's today. Forecast for the next 48 hours has the highs in the middle '80's and the overnights in the lower '60's upper '50's.
