Sounds as if someone in hospital fucked up a bit initially by sending you home. Despite all the scans. Someone with 6 broken ribs is major trauma.

Was it a flail chest? As some ribs broken twice?

I know for a fact over here you would have been kept in and closely monitored possibly in a HDU ( high dependency unit).

I thought about you the other day as I was zipping along one of my local twist roads that had recently been resurfaced with tar & gravel. Gravel was light and not the problem, it was a road crew coming down the road towards me with a street sweeper dead center in the road, behind him was a second sweeper in the center of my lane, then as I move over to right, I saw a third sweeper near the edge of the road! fortunately there was just enough road left to squeeze through. Pavement dropped off into a drainage ditch so that wasn't an option. You never know when such situations arise, no other traffic on my side, no warning vehicle in front of sweepers, just merrily coming towards me. Just plain stupid, where did they expect oncoming traffic to go?

Keep on top of everything, question everything. Beware of infections, hospitals are notorious breeding grounds. Some time the complications can be worse than the injuries. You were wise to get off the opioids, even though they work so well. Hope your recovery continues progress without any more complications. You have made us think about how and where we ride.

Ride the 170 five times a week, lot more of crazy’s just in that area for some reason.
5 this morning doing about 73 in the diamond lane, had this asshat pass in the fast lane doing over 100+ with no lights on, and the car was black.
And of course no cop anywhere.

Reminds me of the dipshit that managed to crash and land his dead ass on an overhead freeway sign some time back.
So I recall hearing on the radio. I can live w/o seeing that kind of shit. :Der:

I was wearing some mesh gear, due to 95°, humidity and walking around inside Bell Witch Cave. Had I been wearing my track suit with the chest and back protector, I probably could have walked away.

A mesh cycle great jacket, cycle gear Sedici track full gauntlet gloves and jeans with some tall combat boots.

Jacket is trashed. Rash on left shoulder, left forearm, right elbow, both knees. Helmet is a LS2 Arrow, y'all saw the picture of that.

The gloves worked excellently, but I still fractured my left ring finger. Boots were from Walmart, $40 and saved my feet. Jeans didn't last at all, as you can imagine.

I was riding with Harley people, so wouldn't be going fast... Yeah, we see how that turned out.

Had I been wearing my track suit as I have done all the other times, I would have had a chest and back protector along with hard and soft armor and triple stitched leather. I imagine I could have possibly avoided the hospital...

    Live and learn.

Crazy crazy update to the opioid discussion. In my OP I started that I stopped taking them. Last night my back was hurting really bad. I took some Lortab that had been prescribed to me. That shit literally stopped my breathing. I woke up gasping for air, with a pressurized CPAP mask on. Fuck that noise. I'm not touching them every again. Holy Shit!!!

ETA: I took the prescribed amount too

That's the crazy part. I saw the CT scan they did on my release. It was clear. Boom, two days later...

We have an opioid epidemic in our country. I myself do not tolerate them well either. They cause a lot of itching and nausea for me. So much so that I usually just deal with the pain.

Unfortunately, working in the medical field, I have watched our doctors be worn down by the prescription seekers and now the average dose is not what it used to be. Of course, the drug companies say they are plenty safe and non-addictive. Supposedly heroin was originally billed as non-addictive. go figure.

I count myself lucky that I don't like them, because they have ruined my brothers life.

    Hey all,
Looks like it's update time. Sorry, just going through a lot.

I am healing. I'm able to move around more, definitely. I had a few issues I have overcome, such as a lot of trouble sleeping and breathing at the same time. Dealing with my relationship, really scared my wife bad, trying to put that back together. I'm finally sleeping more than 1 1/2 hours a night. That's a really big thing!

Find out I'm basically allergic to opioids, so that right there has really changed my outlook on activities, as at this moment, there is nothing that controls pain like them, and you have no idea the pain I've been through. Literally sobbing in the hospital due to pain when the nurse was unresponsive.

I've changed. I'd like to ride again, but when I look at all I've been through, I don't know. Maybe some years from now, I don't know. My relationship with my wife right now is highest priority. I've spent more of my life with her, than without. I don't want to just throw all of it away. She's supported me throughout all the other crashes, this one really really hurt her.

Like I said, a lot going on. Let's see what the future holds.
