Throttle Meister or a Throttle Assist, if you don't have one already.

Yes TylerSC has a good point about the ZZzzzz boring interstates. I'm originally from florida and the only routes I would go on are right next to the beach like on A1A on east side or 319 on the west side. Watch for cops they are packed there.

Turbo, I asked a similar question months ago and got a very nice repsonse from the community - if you have a 1/2 hour to kill read this thread
http://vfrworld.com/forums/anything-goes/24051-whats-your-tank-bag.html <--- click link to veiw thread
I know your question involves more then just what good things to keep with you, but there are some ideas here that shouldnt be overlooked.
Wish I was riding out somewhere cool - I will be stuck at work while your out living the dream. go safe brother.

+1 hand signals. something like "when I pont at my tank it means I need gas" & "when I tap on my helmet it means the cops are up ahead".
(Not that I ever broke the speed limit or ran low on gas..........)

The gas one makes sense, but almost everyone knows what it means when you tap your helmet (including the cops). We'll come up with our own signal for that. :D

that's great idea. I'm gonna try and remember that next time. I ended up taking plastic bags and bagging them and then washing them when opportunity was available.

    ok, good thread!
    My question,
How do you keep your bike from getting stolen if you are camping in a tent?
And Do you bring a cover so people don't just look at it and go, "i want that and i am going to take it!" etc...
I guess the same would be at a hotel.
Just having the bike sitting out unguarded over night makes me nervous!
For that reason I am sort of thinking maybe I should get the red bike instead.
    It's less "flashy".......
I will look into the disk lock and other locks for sure.

Simple, 5+1 of your favorite 12 gauge ammunition.

In reality, we'll just chain all the bikes together.

Along with all the other great comments I would pick up a National Park Pass for you use throughout the trip ( highly recommend Shenandoah National Park in Virginia )Check out all the places you can visit on the site.

You can pick up a pass here: Park Passes

Well, most members of the group (including myself) carry a knife almost everywhere.
I have a firearms license in MA, but I'll have to look into the laws for all the states we're traveling through before I consider bringing more than a couple knives.
