The pad of my throttle thumb is numb after riding my 1986 VFR700 for 140 miles yesterday.
I'm a first time sport bike rider, but have 40+ years riding. Just picked the VFR up Saturday night.
My other street bike is a BMW K100RT, which is a quite different riding posture.
Any hints on how to position myself differently to avoid this numb-inducement?

At the beginning of the real riding season, it takes me some time to get my hands back in shape. When I have a fair distance to travel before I get to the fun roads, I use a wrist assist so I can relax my grip periodically.

Oh... and where the fuck is a picture of your bike? We need these things to properly analyze the situation. :)

Thanks for the tip on the CrampBusters, for just cruising down the road.

    Sweet!

The 86 is great in stock form, but there is also so much potential to free up with thoughtful mods.

Enjoy and ride the crap outa that thing!

Be careful of those clip on devices for your throttle. Yes. They do make long trips me comfortable but take the time to get used to them. I obtained one of those while I was down in California then proceeded to ride all the way back to Canada basically non stop. I found them to be a nuisance when suddenly wanting to decelerate for whatever reason. I found that they simply got in the way. I unceremoniously rid myself of that paddle. I have since switched to a throttle lock as a form of cruise control. A throttle lock is up and out of the way far more, and can be de-activated with the flip of your thumb where as the throttle paddle, remains in place until you remove it from the throttle.

There was another device brought up here years ago called a Vibranator. They were a bar end type of type of device that apparently reduced the vibrations from the bars significantly. Excessive vibration from the throttle may be what is causing your issue

    Good luck.

I have had this type of Vista Cruise on my 700 for years. I am currently looking into how to mount the same on my 07 800.
