"Let me tell you how it will be
There's one for you, nineteen for me
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman

Should five per cent appear too small
Be thankful I don't take it all
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman

If you drive a car, I'll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat.
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet.

Don't ask me what I want it for
If you don't want to pay some more
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman

Now my advice for those who die
Declare the pennies on your eyes
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman
And you're working for no one but me."

My understanding of the Tariff is that you are covered for items returned to their point of origin when it is for warranty issues. Although they lost the jacket and are actuallly replacing it without having determined that in fact there was something wrong with it, I would argue that the whole matter stems from a warranty issue and that I had no part in or say in Tourmaster replacing the jacket. Had they determined that the jacket I had sent them was in need of replacing, then the provisions of the tariff would permit that replacement with a new item under the warranty. Tourmaster would have made the determination that the replacement was the correct measure. But in this case, someone lost or stole the jacket while it was in their possession. So it is their choice to replace the jacket rather than to spend an unrealistic amount of time searching the jacket down. But this is still them dealing with the warranty of the original purchase. So I would still be covered and exempt from further taxes for this jacket, taxes and duty that I have already paid during the original purchase. Sounds reasonable? I am sticking with it.

    Yes, it does sound reasonable.
Unfortunately, that probably rules out the government agreeing with it. (I would put a smiley here, but I'm not really joking)

Hopefully, you are correct in your belief.
Seems like rubbing salt in the wound if you do have to pay the tax after all the time and aggravation.
One way or the other, you should have an answer soon.
    Good luck!

Those dudes at Tourmaster are famous for nicking leaky jackets and more familiar with Canadian import/export taxation than may be apparant. By this time even though they are cordial and compliant on the surface, the badgering by Captain Randy of the dogooder patrol has pissed off somebody up the line.

Some of our federall pens are fairly posh for offenders like tax evaders. I sure hope Canadian pens are not like the Russian Gulags and up near the Arctic Circle. Damn!, that and a leaky jacket would make for a rough winter. I would hope one would get a nice warm and fuzzy cellmate who would share his oatmeal.

Praise God. Today I got my new jacket delivered to my doorstep by UPS and left there for someone to steal. That didn't happen. But I did have those visions. Unfortunately now my bike is in pieces and I won't be able to test the jacket out for about a week. If I get wet, I am not telling them. I've had enough of Tourmaster. If I am down that way riding around, I will detour through East LA to avoid going anywhere hear their place.

Living so near the water and who knows how many hosers there are up there, one might think you could find a way to test your new jacket. What are you going to do about the label on the outside? Advertise for those folks some more? LOL

I know a guy who knows a guy who used to have an underwater housing for a Polaroid SX70 for test pix of Randy's new threads. Hope this helps..

Personally, I'd leave the brand new jacket packaged, and sell it on eBay. I have a suit from aerostich that works pretty well. No it's not water'proof' but you can damn well bet their customer service by all accounts beats the shit out of what you received.

That would be an option, but isn't he likely to take a big hit moneywise?
If he has a need for the jacket in dry weather, it has some great reviews and looks great in the advertising pictures.
I'm not sure any jacket or pants will be 100% waterproof. Even a lot of rainsuits are marginal.
What with the original cost, the original tariff and all the aggravation he went through, I would have to seriously consider keeping it.
I carry one of those plastic fold up ponchos in the pocket of my leather jacket for any showers that might sneak up on me.
If I know it's going to rain, I don't ride.

"If you don't ride in the rain, you don't ride". :)

Just kidding, Charles. I've certainly avoided the rain on occasion by taking the cage to work.

Grundens makes waterproof raingear. Doesn't breath very well (meaning at all), but it is 100% waterproof.

The Canadian tax on importing an Aerostitch is calculated in Loonies. In real money that is about 7.4 cents.

I agree with Reg. Pop for a "Stitch" and you'll never look back. The hard cataloge is also full of fine farkles.

There's a lot of people that share that sentiment.
    I ride for fun.
Riding in the rain wasn't fun.
    Easy decision.

FWIW, hydroplaning on a motorcycle was quite an experience.
Riding in the rain with a friend that went down on a large expanse of painted roadway that was extremely slick when wet.
Those two things also helped with that decision.

Not a bad idea Reg. But I do like the jacket otherwise. The fit is good, and it is quite warm. Albeit, not warm enough to go without the Gerbings. But then, after the trip down there, I am not likely to wear the rain suit or the heated gear again because I WILL BE RETIRED

Here they are. I think this new one has less of the bright colour than the original. Same make but probably a newer years fashion than the first.

Yup....definitely different. But the labels say it is the same jacket. I prefer the more HiVis colour, but I will settle for this. If my original jacket is lost it is not going to suddenly appear out of the blue and to make a specific jacket is not reasonable.
