I've tried the King Cobra oil, but had trouble with the clutch slipping. So I switched to Crocodile oil because it had more bite. Har.

I havent heard anyone say anything about Mobile 1 synthetic racing oil. The Mobile 1 is my preference. Can get it just about anywhere. Price is competitive. I bought my 07 RWB New. After the initial break in I researched as much as I could about MC oil and found The Mobile 1 was usually rated the highest in most categories by multiple web sites,(wear, heat protection, Didnt break down as quickly due to the shear factor ect..) I also use a High Quality oil filter . I like the K&N filter , It is known for its high flow rating yet its media is tops in filtration. Its also has the 17 mm nut that makes it easy to install and more importantly remove . It is also easily obtainable. Just my 2 cents. I agree that no matter what you chose just change it in proper intervals and you should be alright. Preventive maintenance is the key to prolonging the life of you bike.

I was seriously looking at trying Rotella for a couple reasons. First I have diesel truck and second because it is cheaper. But seriously now. How often do you change the oil on your bike? I suggest the vast majority of people here, myself included now that I aM retired, change it maybe 2 times a year. So two oil changes with a really minimally higher priced Motorcycle oil. Is that expense that hard to swallow? If it is, you need to wonder if you should be riding a bike. Now if you use one of these other oils as a matter of personal preference then so be it. Carry on Marine.

BTW Baby oil is far more expensive that motorcycle oil but it does smell nice.

That's a valid point about the cost, but, in all honesty and all things being equal, I'd rather have the money in my pocket than the oil companies'.

Let's see. Diesels have really high compression ratios and run hot. The shear rate on the cylinder wall with all those damn rings scraping up and down breaking down the shear strength sort of indicates that maybe the Rotella might not cause one of our beloved V4s to eat it's own lunch.

Yep, shear has two components. See "rheology."

All this may not be valid if someone can come up with some BS story aboot heat not affecting shear.

Moral: BS travels faster than sound or light. Whee, I may have just created a viral aphorism.

Aha, you fell into my trap by not noticing the apostrophe after the "s" in "companies" signifying a possessive, and the understood "pockets". Bwaaa, ha, ha.

The article that TheEnd posted in #43 rated Mobil 1 as the best at keeping it's viscosity levels after use, so I'm inclined just based on that to say that there may be nothing better.

It'll definitely be on the list of oils being tested in my machine this year.

    Curtsies, despoiled again!

In possessives, the placement of the apostrophe depends on whether the noun that shows possession is singular or plural. Generally, if the noun is singular, the apostrophe goes before the s. The oil companie's. If the noun is plural, the apostrophe goes after the s: The oil companies'.

However, if the word is pluralized without an s, the apostrophe comes before the s: FJ12... entered the men's room full of shit. If you create a possessive with a phrase like of the oil companys you will use no apostrophe: The oil companys.

If viscosity is what you're after just use heavier weight oil. How many samples oils and filter changes will it take if you are using the "list" of a whole shitload of oils found on just this forum? YIKES! Looks like you might have more fun just riding than changing and testing lubricants all day..

LOL any excuse to ride, right?

I'm after more than just viscosity. I want the bottom line. I plan to have a full spectrum analysis run and put them all side by side for comparison. It may be a :deadhorse:, but nobody has ever spent the time to do it and put up the results.

    I'm that guy
