I bought my bike with adjustable needles and plan on finding stock ones. If I know the dimensions: length, taper, diameter. Couldn't I just use any needle that fits those specs. More importantly is there a source online I could pick up some stock needles at. I have noticed correct ones are not easily tracked down along with most small easily lost parts.

Honda was pretty specific pairing the jet needles with the emulsion tubes on the VF500F.

I believe that Factory Pro uses the same jet needle for both the front and the rear carburetors and I know that they do not supply new emulsion tubes. With this in mind the same jet needle (taper) will most likely work with the front and rear carburetors - but the caveat is that these may require shimming or if adjustable moving the clip to dial things in.

I haven't looked into purchasing OEM jet needles but a go to source for hard to find Factory parts is David Silver Spares in the UK. The staff there is very helpful and may be able to help. Here is a link to their website:

I have been seeing several variations of the needles both for magna and interceptor.
Knowing already that I can shim the needles to make it richer. How much difference in shimming is 2VB to make it a 2VA, and a 2VE or 2VF to make a 2VD.

Unfortunately I don't have any data on the dimensional differences (taper angle) between the various jet needles.

It would be interesting to see though!

Keep in mind that to properly dial in the carburetors you'll want to start with the main jets and work from there.

Great info for sure - the clearest description of CV Tuning that I've found.

An update, I'm finishing up the rebuild on my '84 set of carbs and would like to confirm that the above sketch is correct.

As noted, in this thread, for a stock '84 set of carbs:

    • the smaller main jets and the 'A' needles go to the two front carburetors
    • the larger main jets and the 'D' needles go to the two rear carburetors
I am still a bit puzzled though as to whether the emulsion tubes (AKA main jet holders) are as noted in the sketch or if they are to be installed in a crisscrossed orientation.

Any intel would be most appreciated. Thx!

As far as I know emulsion tubes are paired with matching needles.
If needles are as above then the emulsion tubes should be as drawn and not crisscrossed.

    Just my opinion.

just to get it running it won't make much difference whether you use 102 or 105 or where they're placed. that's tuning, and you can work it out later.

    Hi all,

Wanted to refresh this thread as I can seem to find anything to help me with my issue.

I am in process of rebuilding a vf500c, 1985 and came across a messed up carb setup. By this I mean: I have 2x VE jets and 2x VF jets, emulsion tubes as per previous sketch but messed up. One is in front cylinder and other is in rear. As I am reading the manual it tells me to do a criss cross setup on the jet needles but this does not make sense to me hence looking for some advice.
Can you please tell me if the VF needles need to go to front or to the back cyl.? With which emulsion tubes? Ones with 3 holes next to each other or ones with one hole spaced out?
    Thanks

Thanks for your reply. Yes I have. Found emulsion tubes locations, which is opposite to what has been posted on sketches in this thread, so all I need is the damn VF/VE needles order…
