Hi guys, I have 2014 VFR 1200F. It's my second bike and I love it, however I noticed that it's hard to lower the fuel consumption below 10l/100km (my fuel consumption indicator is showing something between 10-13l/100km. on average). I tried to ride it on lower or high speed, even try to look if it's connected to the RPM (high/low RMP - what will be the consumption). Also I'm not sure if there something wrong with the fuel consumption indicator or this is normal ? Have you noticed what the fuel consumption of your bikes is and at what speed or RPM is it lowest consumption ?

Hi and Welcome to the MadHouse:Welcome:

When you get time please add a post in the Introductions part of the forum - tell us a bit about your VFR and your riding history and as the folks on here like photos please upload a photo of your 7th Gen at home in Bulgaria. It is easy - just click the Upload a file link and follow the prompts.

As for the fuel consumption I find gauges can be quite misleading - with the range and fuel level sometimes dropping alarmingly as the tank gets low. You might want to check out real consumption data from similar VFRs here...

10 to 13ltr per 100km certainly seems high! Are you using Ethanol blended fuel? What is the state of your air filter? No dragging brakes? Is its performance poor as well? Are there any EFI Fault codes? Have you done an actual fuel consumption test, rather than rely on what the indicator is telling you?

Thanks for your feedback I was wondering if that fuel consumption is normal or not. I'll do an actual fuel consumption test as I'm not sure if the fuel consumption indicator works well. The air filter was changed few months ago, so I don't think it's from there. Also I don't think it's from the brakes because there are no signs of heavy rubbing. So let me test the actual consumption and I'll ask again if there is something odd.

I must be doing my conversion wrong because I get that your bike is really sucking that fuel down. I have a 2010 VFR1200F and I regularly get 38-40 mpg and that is mostly riding 80mph down country roads. I'm sure it's part of my whole OCD thing, but I figure the mileage every time I fill up partly because I've never seen a fuel gauge I really trust and partly with distances between fuel stops it would be easy to get stranded. Also, sudden changes in consumption are an indicator that there is a problem with the bike.

Same here. Closest to the 10l/100km I'll get on highway "slow cruising" +/-115 km/h with 4 gear.

That’s Odd. I’ve constantly been doing 5-6lites on motorways (110-130km/h) and about 7 in city (Krakow, Poland). See the attached screenshot
Right now I live in Sydney, and I see about 10l/100km in city traffic which drives me nuts.

    Update:

The VFR I’ve bought in Australia had the Power Commander V (PCV) installed. I had to remove it to pass the “blue slip” inspection. Additionally, the fuel consumption was less than ideal (that’s how I found this thread).

Upon removal of the PCV, the fuel consumption became around 10L/100km (23,5mpg) in city and at least 8L/100km (29,5mpg) on a motorway.

I was wondering if something is wrong with the fueling. I could’t justify _that_ bad mileage on a fuel tank just by old sparkplugs/air filter, etc. It was obvious that the issue is related either to one of the main sensors on the engine or the re-flashed ECU.

After reading documentation on the PCV it appeared that both O2 sensors have to be disconnected from the ECU and replaced with O2 bungs during the PCV installation.

Reverting that change (re-connecting the O2 sensors back to the harness) dropped the motorway consumption to 5.1L/100km (47mpg) at about 110kmh in 5 or 6 gear (unleaded 98 petrol). I expect some improvements in the fuel economy in the city as well.

If you have that high fuel consumption, check if all good with the O2 sensors.
