I have an '06 and just got back into bike ownership after an 8 year absence. 43 years of age with no traffic violations or claims. For my first year back I'm paying $930 - full coverage including collision.

For liability, theft & fire without collision it would have been $750.

For just liability, it would have been just over $500.

    In northern MB

I pay MPI(not by choice) 2400 a year for full (thats everything including 1000000 liablity and my deducts are 500 each). Im under 30, have the manditory riders course, and have a clean (not squeaky but still clean) drivers record. their excuse is that motorcyclists cause more accidents and have more claims. the statistics they publish for at fault claims do not match the rcmp reports......btw they only have under 500cc and over 501cc packages. when questioned more closely i have been placed on hold then dropped after 10mins.

I pay something like $1200/year for an '84 Nighthawk 450 and a '98 VFR800FI. This is with Rider's Plus in Ontario.

My wife has been riding for 5 seasons and myself for 2.

I wish I could remember what coverage we get for that price but it would entail digging out the policy! It's good coverage.

I don't know why it is that in Ontario the insurance companies no longer give better rates to people who have completed rider training programs. You'd think that they'd want to encourage rider safety. It's an absurd situation.

I have been off riding for a year and have a record of some tickets with State Farm who covers all my stuff. Cars and house. Now I ask about my old 93 VFR, liability only, 12 years licensed and insured, 2 tickets in 3 years . . . and they want $1,400! Yikes. Online, I get a quote from Riders plus of $780, and from some other online quoter who looks for the best rate, under $600.

Now, I love the service I get from my current agency and State Farm was terrific when I got hit by a ground hog or something and trashed my FZ1. But geez.

So my big question is: do these online quotes hold up when it's trigger time? Or do the rates tend to jump? Any experience with going with an online quote out there?

I was quoted $1049 with Jevco. 39 year old, Full M with an at fault from Oct of 08(low sided my Kat) that I stupidly put a claim in for. I'll be calling around this Monday to see what the best rate I can get so I can get her on the road.

Unfortunately I didn' omit a decimal, I just live in a socialist province. Son has 1000cc Ducati and pays $1700 after his 25% discount. Figure this out?????????????

...and to think we, in Ontario, were pushing for Provincially run insurance at one point!

I'm sorry but harsh language is required here!!!!! It is well beyond any reason.

Geeze you poor lads out west get hit hard hey?
With some regret, I traded my VFR on a beautiful ZX-14, then called Moloche-Monnex (because Riders Plus wouldn't insure me on the 14)...before I knew it, we had home, auto & bike insurance all bundled and the new Kawasaki is $ 610 a year, all perils.

    Thought I'd chime in....

Meloche Monnex quoted (online) $529 (2m Liability, 500 Coll, 500 Comp). Spoke with a warm body, ended up at $398.00/year with all the goodies like roadside assistance and 3rd party top-up.

    30(ish) years old, Calgary Alberta.
2000 VFR 800, no significant mods.
Rider Training, No tickets, No accidents, Home & Auto with them as well.

I was very, very, very, VERY pleased with the rate. It wasn't all that long ago that I was paying $105/mth for a SV650. I should have the official documents within another day or two, almost kind of expecting to find some massive mistake in the paperwork.

I just got full coverage through Primmum (TD insurance) for $635 on a 2002 VFR that I'm flying out to pick up in Dallas on Monday. It could be cheaper....
