Pretty hard to find a high performance piston nowadays that is cast.

I think it was Junior Johnson who said, "They ain't no subbystute for cubic centimeters."

    No argument there.

I would like to hear from someone who has done it. My wet "finger in the air" guess is that it's closer to a 10hp gain.

Wow , old thread from the past. I talked this over with Mike and there's some gains to be had, mostly bottom end and a few ponies in the mid range, with taking advantage of the displacement gains you now can shove more air in there, so yes Cams at the least if one wants better numbers, believe me I've looked long and hard at this, for the most part I was after what the RC45 put down, but that's an FI 360 degree crank motor, still should be doable, but at what Costs? I did go with suspension up grades, talk about a new machine. I agree, first off get the suspension dialed in, then know how to ride (learn to use what you have) surprise what a little knowledge and skills can do. Still all things being , be way cool to see a 145hp 4th gen keeping all it's great attributes.

    displacement

I believe the saying is (from Shelby), "no replacement for displacement." In regards to the puny Ferrari engines of the day, that were stomped by the mighty 427 BB.

But Shelby isn't in the Hall of Fame so what he said doesn't count

I think forged pistons are illegal..So are old sayings that seem to be attributed to the wrong person most of the time and who are usually dead.

Ferrari had a big incher in thier 1955 Bardahl Indy car or was that a big centimeterer?

Jumping ship so to speak and reading over Senor Brascom's posts about his latest project and safely IMO making the assumption that he is a pretty good wrench, even he sent out that 750 Four to a specialist. All this shit about major engine mods is, and most of us know it is, BS and there are costs way over and above the parts unless somebody here has some engine builder strung out on smack and using that for payment. Or I guess the local big "H" dealer might be able to do the number and toss in a big tube of KY jelly or sombody is not telling about using a hole saw on one of those $19.95 six volt Chinese made drills from Harbor Freight
    as a boring bar.

I may just drop one of those 427s into my 91 and call it a Fonda.
