OK, thanks for all the helpful input. I've made up my mind to get a VFR. Southern Powersports in Chattanooga had twelve ABS '08's early this week for $6683 each. Unfortunately, I'm now number 14 on the list. Oh well, I've got till next spring to find one. I'm hoping some more left overs will surface.

A person is going to have to compare the two against one another in order to weigh the benefits of either. This is how educated decisions are made. All due respect.

If you can only have one bike, the VFR is a wise choice! I know my VFR gets more use than my CBR. Enjoy!

before i returned to the vfr, i'd be on the gixxer and often have thoughts of missing my vfr. now that i have another vfr, i rarely have thoughts of missing being on the gixxer (cracking track tool though). wise purchase and southern honda (chatt) has some of the best prices in the us!

Had a brief moment of weakness and inquired about a CB1300S but thankfully Honda has just stopped importing them here.

Wow, that thing is ugly! And for a new model, it doesn't even have USD forks? At least it has shiny headers and wheels. WTF is going on with that fairing?

The CB1300S is a modern interpretation of Hondas old UJM muscle bike the CB900F2 Bol d`Or below, yep the fairing is a little ugly but it also makes it practical as a sports Tourer.

8 hrs to canada turned into 15 on my 86 with my wife.

youll never do that on a cbr.

sure its faster, but the speed limit is only 70

that faired version of the cb1300 is fugly but the unfaired version is something i'd seriously consider. i don't have to worry as it'll never come to the states. bummer!

I'm not sure if anyone else mentioned this aspect of the VFR: character...

IMO it has loads of it. v4 sound, SSSA, fit and finish of supermodel... It's a great bike.

That being said, I wouldn't kick the CBR out of my garage for leaking a little oil on the floor.

I agree. if I was able, I'd have at least 3 bikes

Back on subject now. after I heard a new 08 1000RR just yesterday, I went hmm, sounds so vanilla like, trick bike and all, but wheres the rumble, bark, it's soul?
That brought me full circle again. where's that Ducati at? Since Honda won't make a bike with soul. speaking of, Oh Damn, where'd I see that 4th gen add? ..

    95 VRF 750

The add says it's a 3rd gen, but I thought it that year was a 4th gen?

The great thing about the VFR when riding with anger is it's very easy to manage in the twistys, you can ride the hell out of it and virtually almost always pin it coming out of the corners. On a CBR 1000 you got to have touch with the throttle, if you pin it coming out of the corners with that beast you better get ready for a Lorenzo highside :ninja:

I guess the best way to put it in VFRW terms on roads like Reg's Rossi driveway, 99% of VFRW riders would be faster on the VFR if you had stop watches timing from point A to point B. But on roads like the road going out to the penny bar with it's high speed sweepers the same group on a CBR would smoke the VFR's times.

It always goes back to the question if you can have just one bike what would it be, my vote is the VFR. It's just the perfect all around bike to pass up. That said I'm still trying to save up for that CBR to add to the stable. Damn landscaping cost got in my way this year or I would have already had it

"Soul" is very easy to transplant into a bike like the VFR. All it takes is a few bucks and some imagination . . . .

OK one more point that seems to be missed: the CBR is more fun to ride.

(I am not sure too many of you have ridden a 2008+ CBR 1000RR)

Not the CBR but I rode an R1 and while it was great fun, I couldn't help the feeling that a demon was lurking between my knees (not an unusual feeling for sure!) just waiting to get me killed. No sir, I'm better off on the VFR cause I push it too far on occasion and I'm sure I'd do the same on the liter bike and while most of the time I would handle it just fine, it only takes once to not be on top of the game to get me in too much trouble.
