VFRworld Maintenance - IMPORTANT

    As many of you long-timers know, over the past few months VFRworld has experienced some technical issues, such as notification emails not being delivered, Tapatalk not working, etc. The issues were originally caused by the site being hacked, and unfortunately we haven't been able to fully cleanse and repair the damage.

    The site is running on some fairly outdated software, and because of that, it's more challenging to get support. Therefore, the next step is for VFRworld to undergo a bit of an overhaul. Unfortunately, this is going to be a bit painful for all of us. I will have to backup and restore the database to new software, and then setup all the features that you've grown to love over the years. It's going to take time, and the site is going to be unstable and missing functionality for some period of time.

    The hope is to not lose the vast amount of information in the forums and photo gallery, and to minimize the user impact as much as possible. But, I want to ask in advance for your patience while we go through this process, as well as your feedback as we work to sort out all of the issues.

    To start, the site may be down much of tomorrow, and when it does come back up, it's going to look different, and will definitely be missing some things. I'm doing it on a Friday so that I'll have the weekend to try and setup as much as possible.

    Thanks for the heads-up.

    By the way, I recently had a brute-force hack attempt on one of my home PC's. I use the PC to run the Internet Radio Linking Project Debian-based software for my IRLP node. That's all it does, but the hackers thought it was Fort Knox? Very annoying.

    Agreed - the downtime should give NoVFRBoy and PyschoBB ample opportunity to donate to the site and maybe even purchase a VFR so they could also contribute relevant posts about VFRs for a change. I'm sure they would enjoy each others' company if they went shopping together :beguiled: Actually, maybe one of them could just buy Alaskan's bike - I just read he's considering selling his VFR in favor of an ugly BMW (and yet he likes to call me "stupid"? :witless: )
