    Hey Lads and ladies,

I am putting this thread up to gauge interest on setting up a rider rescue type of program on VFRWorld. I realize that there are several already, including the 'NA Biker Rescue' on Facebook, however, I thought it might be worthwhile to have some guys/girls that intimately know the VFR be available to assist if the need should ever arise. This would also help for the guys (like me) that avoid Facebook/Twitter like the plague to expand the possibilities of assistance.

To put you at ease, no, derstuka doesn't need to come to your home, inspect if you are in compliance, along with drinking your beer, and flirting with your wimins....no, no, no, I charge for those, AHEM, appearances ($$$) anyway. This would just basically be anybody who is willing to participate and help out a VFR rider in need that might be in a certain vicinity of their home. The VFR rider in need could be having overheating issues, chain issues, starting issues, or just need a little assistance with a flat tire. They would need open up VFRWorld to this thread, look at the list of available members in the rescue program, where they live, and contact them through a PM, or other option listed below.

First of all, you just put down your general area, and maybe what you may have to assist with. For example, a truck with ramp(s), trailer, car, gas can, etc. Your real first name would be helpful as well (but not required).

Regarding contact data: I realize that in this day and age, it seems that everybody wants your personal information, so I have two suggestions below to help put your mind at ease:

Option 1. The rider in need contacts you thru a PM. Ideally for this to work, you would need to set up your VFRWorld account so that you get a notification with new emails. Preferably, to an email account that you check on a regular basis.

Option 2. This would be a hybrid of sorts. In addition to option 1, you could leave information such as your phone number and/or email with the administrators of VFRWorld. This contact information would not be provided to the rider in need without your permission. For instance, a rider needs assistance in San Diego...they send a PM asking the local VFRW Rescue team member(s) for help but no response. They can then contact VFRWorld admin, and one of us (derstuka, reg71, tinkerinWstuff, or Michael) would send you a text/email asking if you are available to assist. If you are, and ONLY if you give permission to do so, we would give your contact information to the rider requiring assistance. This way, your information is still secure, but we have an additional way of reaching out to you should the rare circumstance occur.

For me it would look as follows:

    VFRWorld Rider Rescue Member: derstuka
    Real name: Jason
    Location: San Francisco, CA
Equipment: Truck with ramp, gas can, tie-downs, Canyon Dancer, tools, cold beer, strippers???
Rescue Radius: Can help within 1 hour radius of San Francisco
Contact Method: Via PM/Email, or contact admin of VFRWorld to text me.

I may create a new thread (or edit this thread) and consolidate all of the rescue member information onto one thread for ease of searching.

Please check out the poll to vote your choice as well as letting me know your thoughts and any additional ideas. I am kind of keeping this bare basics, but I think if done correctly it could be a useful tool and nothing like the great feeling of helping out another rider in need. Also, if you are member of the rescue team (or not), it would be helpful to at least always have a set of eyes on this thread for riders in need. They might not be in your area, however, you could try to alert the closest rescue member.

Oh, and members from any countries are welcome and encouraged to join! The more the merrier!

    ------------------------------
Due to the space constraints on this post, I had to move the VFRWorld Rider Rescue contact information to its only designated thread. Please click on the link below to be taken to that thread:

I like the idea mainly because I would be on the receiving end of it.:Help:;-) I hope not, but seriously I do like the idea! I know that I have not seen another member in Utah except one that has not posted or responded to me for months ( he had a 2010 1200) . But, I am always willing to help if possible for those of you riding threw and are close to the SLC metro area or Park City and Heber on a Sunday or Monday.

This is an excellent idea!! Very awesome, derstuka!!

I know firsthand how much a relief it is to know I'm not alone on the road.
I've been helped many times by friends and strangers that have become friends.
Helping others in need, especially riders!...I'd just jump at the chance!
I can't wait to give back to riders what I've received many times over.

We all know what it feels like to have something go wrong at the seemingly worse time.
There are plenty of us scattered all over the states and around the world, and together we can help make those worse times a bit better for others!

    Here is my info:

    VFRWorld Rider Rescue Member: A.M
    Real name: Jen
    Location: Wichita, KS
Equipment: Gas, tools, car rides, food/drink, moral support, smiles and laffs
Rescue Radius: Can help within 2 hour radius of Wichita

Now don't you all go breaking down here all at once for A.M spoils... ;)

Spread the love, share your info, because one of these times it will be you in need!
    Trust me...I know!

Thank you to all who have volunteered to participate thus far. I see a lot of views on the thread, but only a handful of members participating (or voting) so hopefully more members will chime in with their information so we can gain some steam! The more than participate, the stronger the VFRWorld Rider Rescue has the potential to be!
