I am getting a high frequency buzz at around 4500rpm from my '98. This is smack on legal speed for my roads, and it's quite hand and foot numbing. I bought it 6 weeks ago with 15,000 km and now have 16,500km on it. Anyone got any suggestions? It shouldnt need valves checked yet, should it?. Does different oil help? Any particular (simple) tuning mods? (I'm no mechanic) Is this just inherent and should I just get used to it or change gearing to avoid it ? TIA, Justin
scedualed valve adjustment is at 16,000 miles .You need to do that anyway so I say give it a shot. my guess is that it should solve the problem.
Two things come to mind. 1. Make sure your chain is not too tight. This can cause quite a bit of buzziness. Properly adjusted, it should push up about 1/2 to 3/4" max from its resting position. Making sure the chain is clean also helps. 2. Starter Valve Synchronization. This is a very simple procedure but you probably won't have the tools. You need a four tube vacum guage. The shop should be able to do it in twenty to thirty minutes tops. Problem is, most Honda dealers are clueless about the procedure. I had to show it to them in the manual and this was several years AFTER the FI bikes had come to market!! Properly done, this will eliminate a good deal of buzz from the motor. Hope this helps. Good luck. I guess you could always go faster ;D
Thanks for the tip. I hadnt even heard of that before, but will follow it up. The bike now almost has 18,000km up so is due for a minor service - I'll quiz the dealer (and consult my Haynes Manual). Cheers, Justin Just curious, how did you find out about this??
