Great watching him ride again. Wondering if any of you can help me remember who got hit from behind at the end of one of the big races at laguna during the late eighties. He had stopped on the track after winning the race when he was hit.

Thank-you, I was up on the back straight when they announced it. Memory isn’t very good any more.

    From AMA Hall of Fame:
Bubba Shobert was a three-time AMA Grand National dirt-track champion (1985-1987) and went on to become AMA Superbike champion in 1988. Shobert was considered the most versatile rider in AMA racing during the late 1980s. He won in all forms of Grand National competition: mile, half-mile, TT steeplechase. short track and road racing. Shobert was forced to retire from racing in the prime of career after suffering head injuries in a freak accident at the U.S. World Championship Road Racing Grand Prix in 1989. Shobert recovered from the injuries, but never returned to racing. Shobert was honored as the AMA Pro Athlete of the Year in 1986 and 1987.

We moved back east in June 1990, lost track of MC racing.

Pretty sure Bubba was doing the burnout, Kevin not paying enough attention, hit him hard.

Couldn’t tell you, I was at the other end of the track, heard the announcement over the PA. 40 years ago, that’s all I remember.
