Funny thing, went for a ride yesterday wearing my new RF1200, knew it was better ventilated and quieter than my RF1100 and found it noise wise acceptable even at 65mph without my plugs in I'd usually wear on a half day or longer ride. Today went for another half dayer in my older RF1100 and soon found out leaving plugs out was a mistake as soon as we hit the highway.

Don't know how Shoei managed the hat trick of making the RF1200 lighter, quieter and increase the inside airflow all at the same time. ☺

As good as Bell's old "If you've got a $10 head wear a $10 helmet" motto sounds, it really does appear to be BS. http://blm.io/blog/motorcycle-helmet-safety-price/ Get a helmet that fits and do some research, each helmet is different, even among brands.

This is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. Choosing a helmet is very personal. I live in mine when I ride and the fit must be right. Along with that I wear glasses when I ride and so I must be able to install them quickly and comfortably on my head after I put the helmet on. I have a big head and usually take a 3X. My problem is I need time to evaluate each helmet for me personally. This usually involves buying one that feels good in the store and then using it a couple of weeks to see if it is right. I have used helmets that were just not quite right because they were "good enough."

Right now I am in the evaluation stage of a HJC CL-17. It's OK but the padding seems a bit thin. I can't wear any Bell helmets. They are all too tight. I used a Scorpion for several years and it fit pretty well but if I tried to to talk with it on I might bite the inside of my cheek. It was pretty snug through the jaw. I want to try a Shoei or an Arai but I can't justify $400+ on a hat that might not do the trick. I wish there were a good way to get a perfect fit.

I am thinking aboot the new guy from Canada who had a simple question aboot touring helmets. By now he has found this thread and is even more confused than when he asked the question in the first place. We should be very careful as not to induce traumas to our cousins from the frozen North.

This could lead to the man giving up riding or as equally unthinkable, buying a Harley.

Ironically I beleive it was Bell that had a special going where they would build you a custom fitted helmet. Not sure if it was for sure Bell or how much more it would be for this, but maybe something to look into.

Sure like that Lazer Carbon Monico, look big time, finish and fit..even with my glasses. ....but my gut says Shoei.
Always rode with a tinted shield and just can't wrap my brain how much I'll like that flip down inner visor.
Schuberth has that D right, no big deal getting used to it?

Initially was tossing up between the GT air and Rf1200, in the end went for the 1200 because the GT air doesn't have the availability of iridium visors and was too the flip down screen while conveniant has some issues with light leekage and dirt when up from the head vents.

Yes it does, as does the GT-Air, but I actually prefer the Schuberth over the GT-Air, particualarly if doing any commuting/touring but will wear the GT-Air when sport riding, just the way I prefer it.

The fast guys get the custom made skidlids. The fast guys get the custom made leathers. The fast guys get the custom made boots and the chicks with big tits.

If a dude or dudette is 5'0" and 300 lbs., and not real fast, Andy Goldfine's outfit will do up an Aerostitch. Thankee Jesus for alternatives.

Apparently it was for the Bell 'Star Carbon' so that tells you right there it's not going to be cheap! It also looks like they are doing the measurements at the IMS events. At least for now...

Hahha ... not likely on any of those accounts.

I've had plenty of helmets and motorcycles in the past. I was looking more or less for a baseline with the expectation of having to try a bunch of them on to find the one that fits my melon (and budget) appropriately. :)

That's it! Spot on. I never thought about it but I have been systematically working on my own baseline for years.

I ride with a bell flying tiger. Bought it cause they were out of Rossi replica helmets at my shop. Surprised at how solid, quiet, comfy, light and well ventilated. Cost around 200 bucks. A year later its still pristine and no complaints. I would definitely r eccomend it

I have tried AGV, Bell, Shoei and my current Arai. The Arai fits my head. Therefore IT IS THE BEST!
    For me.

I have an Aria for street rides, and a Bell for dirt and dualsport rides.
Both are good helmets in my opinion.
