Yup. The 6 cylinder engine is no slouch, I mean, its still a 300 horsepower unit. The new 8 speed transmission one of its' best features. To the point where, unless you are towing more than 5000 pounds all the time, you'll never miss the V8.

Thanks! It's been a fun project with my Dad. I grew up with bugs and squarebacks but never had a Karmann Ghia

I just got the bumpers back from the chromer today and am looking to do the tranny in the next couple of weeks.

All in all, it's a great little car and at 82 years young my dad drives it like he stole it.

Right now it's completely stock but have been thinking about dual carbs or increasing the engine to 1776

2000 Celica GTS (6-speed). This was what it looked like new:

    2000 Celica GTS.jpg

It is in perfect mechanical condition and drives like the day I bought it. The 100,000 mile hump saw massive repairs from corroded parts. I am hoping I am over the hump and can go some years without repairs now.

Exterior: The rear wheel wells rusted and I had them replaced this year. They are primed in a reddish primer. Clear coat is peeling in random places. It could use an overall coat of paint, but I just do not see the value in doing that. Looking for an SUV that would be a good value, and perhaps would keep the Celica as it just does not make sense to get rid of a car that works fine, after all of the resources put into it over the years.

Brian I think we think the same. I have purchased new cars, and the massive work I did to pay for them makes me kind of ill today. The new car thing is very emotional and a very bad habit. I wish 44 year old me could talk to 20 year old me. Well, talk and slap.

Not bad, but when it comes to a Celica, I'd have to stick with my old 1988 Celica All-Trac turbo...

    I loved that car.

Oh, and that first gen 1978 Honda Accord in the background is what I was upgrading from!

For daily use we have a much modified Benz 3 litre Turbo Diesel as a daily driver. It has a lot of original E500 parts incl: full brakes, full interior, wide body incl. bumper, skirts, etc.
A very strong and well engineered car which I've modified, starting from a standard example we bought 3 years ago.
Original engines will do over 1,000,000km on these, so we still have some 750,000km + of life left in it. Should last 20 years easily.
    Solid as a rock.

Also have other interesting cars with race spec. engines, etc. I've built over the years from E30 M3, through RX-7's, AE86's, etc. + bikes, but they're not used daily. :peaceful:
