This is purely subjective, but I thought it could be a fun exercise even though many people on this forum only own VFRs. Because this is a VFR forum, it will be interesting to see what people think of the VFR. I do expect some people to compare their VFR to a Nissan GTR or Honda NSX, but personally I see these more as liter bikes, or in the case of the GTR a Hayabusa. Make sure to include any former bikes. Here is what I concluded for the VFR and my former bikes:

Honda Interceptor = Honda Accord Coupe V6 (2 Door)
    - Not the fastest, but neither is it the slowest.
    - Excellent performance and reliable engine
    - Can fit extra passengers, but it is not a strong point.
    - Great styling, but more evolutionary than revolutionary.
    - Great ergonomics and user friendly interface.
    - Owners tend to be repeat buyers. (Certainly for the sedan.)
    - VTEC engine!

    Previously Owned Bikes:
1992 Honda Nighthawk = 1992 Honda Accord Sedan (4 Cylinder Version)
    1980 Suzuki GN400 = 1980 Ford Pinto

    Some ideas?
BMW F800 GS = Toyota FJ Cruiser
    Suzuki VStrom = Nissan Pathfinder
Suzuki DRZ400 SM = Subaru WRX

    Car equivalent to a VFR?

I've always thought the VFR's counterpart was the Acura NSX.

    Cheers!

I remember a CycleWorld issue from the late 90s that made that exact comparison when doing a review of the VFR.

i reckon my car and bike are the equivalent of each other...hell they're even roughly the same colour!

    08 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV

not as sporty as a car, not as a roomy as a station wagon-but somewhere in the middle.

jack of all trades vehicle-can do a bit of off road/on road

    super comfy

easily takes back passenger and small amount of gear

has a dual trip LCD, temp guage, LCD speedo instrument panel

    MIVEC + CVT = VTEC

    made in japan

You should be slapped for the Accord comment:crazy: There are plenty of other cars to compare to namely the S2000- it's not the best car out but it does everything well for the majority. I see it in terms of this- an accord will never give you as many smiles per mile like your VFR does- so it doesn't fit. But you could have tons of fun in a S2000. But you were spot on with the DRZ to WRX:thumbsup:

That is a 93 Accord back there. Very similar to me. I have had the Accord up to 130 on the street as well as used it to drag stuff all over town and haul my butt across the country. The same can be said for my VFR.

If we can talk bike/car comparos leaving out VFRs, my Harley is pretty close to my Uncle's John Deere.

The S2000 would definitely be a good contender. Even a G35 might work. I guess I'm partial to Accords as I had one once upon a time. That's why I used a coupe with a V6 as they're fairly zippy.

Incidentally, I have another black 2006 Honda, but it's a Pilot and very different than a VFR. It's a great family car, but I only drive it no the weekend as I'm a daily commuter on the bike. There is definitely a huge difference in "smiles per mile" factor.

nah, i dont see the S 2000 as a comparative.

    its too sport focused.

the VFRs greatest attribute is its 'all rounder' ability, which i just dont see in the S2000.

its more akin to a CBR 600R IMO.

BMW 6 series - the newer ones too, but I'm thinking late 1980s 635CSi/M6. Pretty rare. Kinda heavy. Good at touring, good at twisties. Loved and respected by those who know what it is, surprises those who don't.

I think John Deere would be very upset with you for this statement.

The best comparison for the comparison would be the BMW 3 Series.
The BMW & the VFR are:
Not the fastest & don't really care to be.
Not the most comfortable but make up for it in other areas.
Not the most technologically advanced but make the most of what they have.
Not the lightest but fool you with prize fighter reflexes.

& last but not least, both of them usually win every comparison test they enter.

    You get the idea.

    KC-10 FE out...

Funny we should liken a Japanese motorcycle to a German car but BMW seems to be a re-occuring theme. When I had my 6th Gen to non bike owning friends I likened to a friends '99 M5, fast, comfortable, practical and classy in an understated fashion most accepted that comparison as reasonable one.

Interesting I liken my current 5th Gen more to a sportier Grand Tourer like a Corvette LS1, fast, practicle on the road but rawer in both sound and feel.

The Corvette is not a grand tourer. A grand tourer would be something of the nature of, depending on how much you want to spend, a Maseratti Grand Tourismo all the way down to the Pontiac GTO.

Normally, I would agree with the statement about comparing a Japanese bike to a Japanese car.

WARNING! WARNING! AN OPINION TO FOLLOW!

Problem with that is 95% of Japanese cars are severely over-rated by both the car mags & their owners. Almost all of them are boring as hell.

    Examples:

    The Toyota Camry.
I have no doubt it is a reliable, solid, afforable ride. Unfortunately, it is as exciting as a side by side fridge. There is no way on earth it is the best car money can buy yet it is in fact one of the best selling cars on the market.

    The Mazda Miata.
Car mags say it is some of the most fun you can have behind the wheel of a car. Really? The original had 112HP & the thing is put together so cheaply I'm surprised you can't see thru the sheet metal. They upped the power & unfortunately, the price is way up as well. I wouldn't pay more than $15000 out the door for a brand new example. The anti-thesis to this car is the Honda S2000. That's what Mazda aimed for. They missed.

    WRX/EVO.
I've driven a WRX STI but not the EVO. Great cars. As great as they are, never forget the fact that it is nothing more than a stripped down econo-box with a rip snorting engine. A loaded example should be no more than $20000.

I want a vehicle to make me look forward to driving it. Anyone who looks forward to driving a 4000lb 4 door V6 family sedan really doesn't "get it" if you ask me,

Right on the money about the Camry, KC.

In the vast majority of cases, that's just about all any cars are, about as exciting as your washing machine.

I pay about as much attention to cars as I do my washing machine, does it wash clothes? good.......does it require repair? do so.........would I modify its performance?...why? its a washing machine...we're done here

Pickups and SUVs are the power tools of the automotive world, use up , work em till they're gone.

No offense to the fine folks that love their cars, but they just don't get me going like a bike does.

Unless they're some kind of old muscle car or old Porsche-like thingie.

    wow....

    I agree...

    ...wait...

    what?!?!?!

Did I just agree with Kc-10?

    YUP.

    Jap Cars (non-luxury of course)

    Reliable? Yes.
    Boring? Definitely.
Over Rated by owners and car mags? OMG YES.

Don't get me wrong, American manufacturers aren't exactly filled with excitement either and the interiors are so boring they belong in a church library.

This is of course, referring to family sedans for the most part. (yes, I know they're boring to begin with)
